As the Senior Accountant, you will play a critical role in driving our financial operations and scalability. You will leverage your expertise to oversee key accounting functions, from Work in Progress (WIP) schedules to financial reporting and audits. By ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across our accounting processes, you will empower leadership with the insights needed to make informed decisions, support budget optimization, and contribute directly to the financial health and growth of our organization.

Kindly note: This role is based in our Vista office, with occasional travel to our Lakeside office as needed 

This role’s key areas of focus are:

  • Financial Reporting & Month-End Close 
  • WIP Schedule Preparation & Job Costing
  • Payroll & Compliance Audits
  • Process Improvement & Team Leadership

This role will:

  • Financial Management:
    • Oversee accounts receivable (AR), accounts payable (AP), and general ledger processes, ensuring accurate data entry and timely reconciliations.
    • Manage all aspects of financial reporting, including cash flow, budget analysis, and variance reports for various departments and business units.
    • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations, including preparation and payment of state, local, and federal taxes.
  • Work in Progress (WIP) & Job Costing:
    • Lead the preparation of WIP schedules in collaboration with project managers, ensuring accurate job costing and tracking for government contracts and security projects.
    • Ensure all job costing is accurately reflected in the financial statements, with continuous monitoring and updates.
  • Payroll & Audits:
    • Manage payroll, including proper classification of employees for workers’ compensation and payroll reporting.
    • Lead workers’ comp audits, 401k audits, and other regulatory compliance audits, ensuring timely completion and adherence to regulations.
  • System Improvements & Scalability:
    • Assist the Accounting Manager in building new processes and scalable systems to handle the growing needs of the company.
    • Oversee the improvement of financial systems, particularly SAP, and implement process enhancements for credit card usage reporting and receipt collection.
  • Stakeholder Management & Customer Service:
    • Serve as the accounting point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, including vendors, project managers, and leadership.
    • Provide clear financial reports and feedback to budget managers across the company, assisting in budget creation and analysis.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Insurance Management:
    • Handle insurance reporting, renewals, and applications to ensure continuous coverage for the company.
    • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal government requirements, particularly as the company expands into new locations.
  • Leadership & Team Development:
    • Provide leadership within the accounting department, mentoring junior staff and promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
    • Help establish and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and policies to ensure consistency and accountability.

This role might be a good fit for you if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in accounting, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Proficiency in SAP or similar financial systems.
  • Strong understanding of WIP schedule preparation and job costing, particularly in a government contract setting.
  • Experience in month-end close, year-end close, and financial reporting.
  • Familiarity with payroll processes, workers’ compensation audits, and 401k audits.
  • Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively both independently and within a team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.

Salary Range

$90,000 - $120,000 USD
