Overview

This position leads the Asset Management team within our Asset Performance and Optimization (APO) group and reports to the VP of Asset Performance and Optimization. The team manages the commercial and financial performance of more than 700 MW of operating utility-scale and distributed generation solar and battery energy storage projects across the United States, backed by a 7 GW development pipeline. The team sets strategy for and oversees contract compliance, tax equity and investor relations, financial management and reporting, operational performance, regulatory compliance, and the transition of new projects from construction to operations. The Director will build and lead a high-performing team of Asset Managers, a Regulatory Compliance Manager, and an Asset Integration Manager; work closely with internal teams (Development, M&A, Engineering, Construction, Legal, Finance, Tax, and O&M); build trusted relationships with offtakers, investors, and lenders; and mentor staff.

Core Responsibilities

Commercial and Financial

  • Lead tax equity management where applicable: manage relationships with tax equity investors, administer partnership and operating agreements, track cash distributions and allocations, prepare investor reporting, and manage consents, notices, and other investor approvals
  • Monitor investment tax credit (ITC) compliance, including recapture risk and flip timing, with Finance, Tax, and Legal, and support flips, buyouts, and other tax equity milestones
  • Lead the team that serves as the primary contact for offtakers, tax equity investors, lenders, and other financing parties, and make sure their questions are answered accurately and on time
  • Own project-level operating budgets built on prudent assumptions for revenue, operating expenses, and capital expenditures, and run the monthly, quarterly, and annual budget-to-actual reconciliation process
  • Deliver monthly operating reports and other financial and performance reporting to leadership, owners, and financing parties
  • Understand project revenue across energy, capacity, and ancillary markets, including BESS dispatch and settlement, and work with Power Marketing to protect and grow it
  • Review and negotiate asset management, O&M, LTSA, and other commercial contracts
  • Lead the resolution of commercial issues and disputes with counterparties, escalating to Legal as needed
  • Lead asset management due diligence for acquisitions and divestitures, and provide analysis for refinancing and asset improvement decisions

Compliance

  • Oversee compliance with project agreements, including offtake agreements (PPAs and vPPAs), interconnection agreements, financing documents, leases and lease payments, and permits; keep obligation trackers current and make sure deliverables are met on time
  • Manage REC and environmental attribute delivery: register projects in the tracking systems (such as WREGIS, M-RETS, PJM-GATS, and ERCOT), oversee monthly issuance, transfers, and retirements under PPAs and vPPAs, and reconcile REC volumes against generation and contract obligations
  • Direct regulatory compliance, including FERC, RTO/ISO, and NERC CIP Low obligations, and lead the team's response to regulatory, policy, or market changes that affect project economics
  • Track permit conditions and decommissioning obligations, including related financial assurance, with Development and Finance

Operational Performance

  • Understand how each project is performing against budget and contract expectations (production, availability, and revenue), identify the drivers of underperformance, and work with the O&M teams on corrective action
  • Track curtailment and pursue compensation where contracts allow
  • Enforce performance and availability guarantees in O&M agreements and LTSAs, including tracking and recovering liquidated damages
  • Work with the O&M Services and O&M Performance and Optimization teams on warranty claims, insurance claims, and revenue recovery, and with Technology on OT issues that affect performance
  • Oversee the transition of new projects from construction to operations, including pre-COD revenue readiness, handoff of contracts and obligations, and build quality at COD

Team and Innovation

  • Set the vision for how Asset Management scales without adding headcount at the same pace as the portfolio; identify manual work in compliance tracking, reporting, budgeting, and investor deliverables, and lead the design and rollout of automated processes and AI tools to replace it
  • Support corporate initiatives to strengthen enterprise-wide processes and systems
  • Coach and develop staff, give timely and constructive feedback, and cross-train the team so key knowledge and responsibilities are not held by one person

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Finance, Business, Economics, or related field. Master’s degree a plus
  • 10+ years of energy industry experience, including asset management of utility-scale renewable energy projects
  • Direct experience managing tax equity partnerships, including partnership flip structures, investor reporting, cash distributions, and ITC compliance
  • Solid working knowledge of project finance documents, offtake agreements (including REC delivery), and project financial models
  • Strong understanding of solar and BESS operational performance, including availability, degradation, and loss drivers
  • Experience with RTO/ISO markets and regulatory compliance, including FERC and NERC
  • 5+ years leading and developing high-performing teams, with a track record of improving processes and systems to support portfolio growth
  • Track record of designing and implementing automated workflows, data systems, or AI tools that measurably improved a team’s capacity or accuracy
  • Comfort working hands-on with data and modern tools (for example, Excel/Power Query, Power BI, Python, or AI assistants), and the curiosity to keep learning new ones
  • Experience with power performance analytics platforms; Power Factors a plus
  • Clear, confident communicator with investors, lenders, and senior leadership
  • Self-directed and effective working remotely with a distributed team

Benefits Package

  • 401(k) plan with company matching
  • Competitive health, vision, and dental benefits
  • Attractive personal time off and company holiday package
  • Work-from-home policy
