Systems Administrator

The team at Advanced Space is seeking an experienced Systems Administrator to join our growing team and support critical business information systems within our corporate infrastructure. This role requires strong Linux administration and management skills, along with proficiency in the Microsoft ecosystem. As a Systems Administrator, you will work closely with the Information Systems Manager and IT team to install, configure, and manage both UNIX and Windows operating systems. You will be responsible for maintaining system integrity, troubleshooting issues, optimizing network components, and implementing improvements to enhance performance and reliability of the organization’s information systems.

This position is on premises at our Westminster, Colorado headquarters and reports to the Information Systems Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and manage core IT infrastructure, including operating systems, security tools, applications, servers, email systems, software, and hardware across the organization.
  • Administer and support enterprise Microsoft systems, including Windows OS, Microsoft 365, and Entra Active Directory, ensuring reliability, security, and performance.
  • Administer and optimize the Linux/UNIX ecosystem, with a focus on automation, configuration management, and performance tuning.
  • Manage and maintain firewalls, switches, networks, and other critical networking and security devices.
  • Implement, monitor, and enhance security configurations across all business information systems to align with industry standards and compliance requirements.
  • Support and maintain internal infrastructure, including laptops, desktops, servers, routers, switches, firewalls, printers, phones, and network components (LAN, WAN, VLANs, etc.).
  • Perform regular system audits, testing, and maintenance to ensure security, stability, and efficiency.
  • Continuously improve documentation and refine IT processes, ensuring they remain effective and scalable.
  • Act as an escalation point for technical support issues, providing guidance and tasking to junior engineers as needed.
  • Implement and maintain system hardening policies (CIS/STIG), ensuring compliance with client requirements and industry best practices.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of experience in IT, with at least five years as an IT Systems Administrator, managing both Linux, Windows, and cloud environments. 
  • Proficiency in system imaging, installation, and centralized management for Windows and Linux environments.
  • Experience in configuration management of systems using Ansible and/or Microsoft Intune (MDM), Azure solutions, and application/system baseline deployment.
  • Strong knowledge of firewall administration (policies, routing, ACLs) and network engineering (firewalls, switches, VLANs, VPNs, cloud networking).
  • Experience managing on-premises, virtualized (ESXi), and cloud (Azure/AWS) infrastructures.
  • Experience with scripting and automation (PowerShell, Bash, or Python).
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and collaboration skills, with a commitment to security and quality.

Eligibility requirements:

  • Ability to work in the Westminster, CO office 4-5 days/week.
  • Preferred (but not required) certifications include Microsoft Azure Administrator, RHCSA, LPIC, CompTIA Linux+, Security+, CISSP, or CCNA (or equivalent). Candidates with relevant experience but without these certifications are still encouraged to apply
  • Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. Citizen or lawful permanent resident)
  • An active U.S. Security Clearance is preferred but not required
  •  Familiarity with the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) Program and NIST 800-171.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Base Salary Range: $87,000 - $130,000, based on team member role and experience
