Operational Risk Officer

Adyen is looking for an Operational Risk Officer in our Amsterdam office to join our second line Operational Risk team, which itself is part of the global Enterprise Risk team. Someone with Operational Risk Management (ORM) knowledge and experience who wants to apply and further expand this in a fresh and exciting tech growth environment. Someone who wants to build and enhance the building blocks of our framework, in a global setting and across our risk taxonomy. This is where you come in.

You understand Operational Risk, its common underlying types, its mechanisms across the cycle, its added value, and some of the relevant supervisory expectations. You have an intuition for what “good” looks like in this context and can bring together people and content to achieve it. You are looking for an opportunity to take ownership and are looking for a steep learning curve. Adyen has little hierarchy and management levels, meaning you will be involved in building, driving, and maintaining a range of risk management activities.

What you’ll do:

  • You will be focusing on Operational Risk, to manage risks in an efficient manner.
  • Support with enhancing, further building and advocating our global Framework and be one of the key sources of knowledge.
  • Lead or contribute to core ORM activities, including defining and tracking Adyen's risk appetite, monitoring and logging operational loss events, contributing to scenario analysis, and driving effective issue management.
  • Collaborate with first-line stakeholders to provide practical guidance and present recommendations on improving practices, integrate relevant risk considerations into the development of new products and projects, and champion the continuous improvement of processes, policies, and procedures.
  • Partner with the Internal Control team and other second-line teams (e.g., Regulatory, Compliance) to ensure appropriate risk responses are adopted.
  • Provide support and take an advisory role in different types of risk assessments.
  • Prepare clear and insightful Operational Risk reports for Management and Risk Committees, providing an accurate view of the risk landscape.
  • Maintain awareness of evolving technological, strategic, and regulatory developments, proactively incorporating them to keep our ORM approach robust and future-proof.

Who you are:

  • You have 3 years + relevant professional experience in Operational Risk Management, in a second-line capacity (internal or consulting) at a financial institution, tech company or large corporation.
  • You are familiar with banking regulations (such as principles from CRR/CRD, Basel, EBA, OCC, or PRA) and understand how they translate into ORM requirements.
  • You have knowledge of and/or experience with Data Risk Management and building a Data Risk Management Framework, or an interest in this risk type, is considered a plus.
  • You hold a working understanding of the various components that form a robust ORM framework, enabling you to quickly identify improvement areas.
  • You possess a proactive, energetic mindset and are a lifelong learner.
  • You have a hands-on mentality and actively engage with challenges.
  • You have experience with managing projects, ensuring initiatives stay on track and deliver measurable outcomes.
  • You leverage great communication skills to build consensus, manage stakeholders and drive adoption of best practices across different teams.
