Deputy Money Laundering Reporting Officer (DMLRO)

We are looking for a Deputy Money Laundering Reporting Officer (DMLRO) position which is designed for an experienced financial crime expert who can navigate the fast-paced environment. You will serve as the deputy to the MLRO, holding significant regulatory accountability as the Nominated Officer responsible for submitting Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) to the NCA. You will oversee the entire UK AML/CTF framework, from conducting formal risk assessments to fine-tuning transaction monitoring controls and ensuring the firm remains compliant with evolving UK regulations. You will be bridging the gap between complex regulatory requirements and scalable, tech-driven business solutions.

What you'll do

  • Deputising for the MLRO: Act as the Nominated Officer when the MLRO is unavailable, fulfilling all statutory and regulatory duties, including but not limited to; receiving, investigating, and reporting SARs to the NCA under POCA and TACT.
  • Supporting AML/CTF Program Oversight: Assist the MLRO in designing, developing, and reviewing the firm's AML/CTF risk management arrangements, policies, controls, and procedures in alignment with UK regs and regulatory change.
  • Risk Assessment and Management: Conducting and maintaining the firm's formal, regular Money Laundering/Fraud/Terrorist Financing Risk Assessment and ensuring internal policies reflect the UK risk profile.
  • Customer Due Diligence (CDD) and Monitoring: Oversee and challenge the effectiveness of the firm's CDD, and Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) processes, including reviewing decisions on high-risk relationships.
  • Assessing Transaction Monitoring Controls: Making ongoing assessments on the effectiveness of transaction monitoring controls and providing advice and guidance on improvements/iterations to the 
  • Reporting and Management Information (MI): Assist in preparing regular reports and MI to the MLRO, senior management, and the board on the firm's Financial Crime risk exposure, control adequacy, and policy adherence, culminating in the MLRO Annual Report.
  • Internal Controls and Investigations: Assist in internal investigations into suspicious activities, maintain records, and recommend remedial actions for control deficiencies.
  • Training and Awareness: Support the MLRO in ensuring relevant staff are adequately trained in ML/Fraud/TF prevention, and understand the firm's risk-based approach.
  • Control framework and policy: Maintain and continuously improve the local control frameworks to ensure that all regulatory requirements in the UK, including all regulatory guidances, are embedded in local policies and procedures.
  • Regulatory Change: Anticipate local regulatory AML obligations and risks, and ensure these are addressed in a practical and scalable way.
  • Regulatory Liaison: Assist in managing relationships with regulators and supervisors in the UK around financial crime risks to achieve Adyen’s strategic opportunities;
  • Oversight: Conduct oversight of financial crime prevention operations of Adyen UK AML/CFT and Sanctions programme, including filing of reports to the NCA, as well as responding to enquiries made by regulators or law enforcement.
  • Internal SARs: Act as the internal contact point for any employee having information on possible money laundering and/or terrorism financing and/or circumvention of Sanctions legislation.

Who you are

  • You have at least 7 years of experience in a regulatory and/or compliance function within the  payments-, financial services- and/or fintech industry;
  • Your knowledge of the UK AML/CFT regulatory landscape and best practices is well established, preferably in a recent comparable role in a UK financial institution;
  • You have strong interpersonal and communication skills as well as experience in managing the relationship with UK regulators and internal stakeholders across multiple jurisdictions;
  • You have a strong sense of initiative, independence and ability to take ownership over complex matters; 
  • Being tech savvy, hands-on and solution oriented will help you to be successful in a growing FinTech; 
  • You are an analytical thinker who can ideate creative solutions for complex regulatory dilemmas, challenge the status quo and drive business opportunities while staying in control.
