Desktop CPQ Application and Automation Engineer

South San Francisco, CA
Aechelon Technology, Inc. is a leading producer of 3D simulator content, including Geospecific visual/sensor databases and realistic 3D models. We seek people who share our passion for real-time computer graphics and commitment to our mission of helping make our Nation’s pilots safer. We will give you a chance to work with some of the most talented people in the graphics industry.

Aechelon Technology -- a Shield AI company, builds high-fidelity visual simulation systems. We're looking for a Lead Software Engineer to own the technical direction of our Configuration, Pricing and Quoting desktop app — the internal system our sales, finance, and operations teams rely on to build quotes, manage work orders and purchase orders, generate branded proposal documents, and analyze contracts. It's an Electron + React + SQLite application that runs fully offline, with integrations to NetSuite, Jira, Confluence, Perforce, and Outlook.

As the technical lead, you'll set architecture, uphold engineering standards, and be the primary owner of a business-critical tool. You'll partner directly with sales, finance, and operations leadership to translate real workflows into a reliable, maintainable product — while mentoring other engineers and keeping the codebase healthy as it grows.

Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following:

  • Own the architecture end-to-end: the Electron main process (Node.js — database, IPC, integrations) and the React 19 renderer, including the strict security boundary between them.
  • Drive the data layer: design and evolve the local SQLite schema (better-sqlite3), lead migration strategy, and own sync/upsert logic and data integrity.
  • Lead integrations: set the approach for NetSuite (SuiteQL, opportunity/quote sync) and the Jira, Confluence, and Perforce adapters, including auth and error-handling patterns.
  • Set engineering standards: define testing, linting, code-review, and release practices; raise the quality bar and reduce long-term maintenance risk.
  • Mentor and unblock other engineers through code review, pairing, and technical guidance; grow the team's expertise in Electron and the CPQ domain.
  • Partner with stakeholders to scope initiatives, make build/trade-off decisions, and translate ambiguous business needs into a clear technical roadmap.
  • Own release engineering: cross-platform packaging and auto-update via electron-builder / electron-updater.
  • Shape the Contract Analyzer module, including document extraction and optional AI-assisted analysis.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 4+ years building production software with JavaScript/Node.js, including experience leading projects or teams (tech lead, staff, or senior-with-ownership).
  • Deep React expertise and strong architectural judgment for component and state design without heavy frameworks.
  • Strong SQL and relational data modeling skills; fluency with schema evolution, migrations, and synchronous DB access patterns.
  • Solid command of Electron's process model — main vs. renderer separation, IPC, contextIsolation, secure preload bridges — or demonstrated ability to master a comparable desktop/security model quickly.
  • Proven experience designing and maintaining third-party API integrations with real-world auth (OAuth/token-based, e.g. NetSuite).
  • Strong Git / GitHub proficiency: trunk-or-branch-based workflows, high-quality pull requests and reviews, and GitHub Actions for CI/CD.
  • Track record of setting technical direction: architecture decisions, testing strategy, and mentoring other engineers.
  • Excellent communication skills and comfort working directly with non-technical business stakeholders.

Bonus Points:

  • Deep Electron desktop experience and electron-builder release/packaging expertise.
  • Familiarity with NetSuite / SuiteQL, ERP systems, or CPQ/quoting domains.
  • Word/PDF document generation and templating experience (docxtemplater, docx, mammoth, pdf-parse, xlsx).
  • Experience integrating LLM/AI SDKs into production workflows.
  • Background in finance, sales operations, or B2B quoting workflows.
