Design Engineer 2
The Design Engineer 2 at AEVEX Aerospace is engaged in the design of aircraft structural and system modifications using 3D CAD software. Tasks involve design and optimization of aircraft structure, systems & components, composite structural design, payload integration, composite tooling design, airframe and component inspection equipment design and ground support equipment design.
Essential Functions
- Creates preliminary design layouts, detailed models & drawings for aircraft modifications and/or repairs using Catia design software
- Considers structural load paths & reactions in the design development
- Conducts tolerance and sizing studies to optimize designs
- Works with senior design engineers & other designers/draftsman to complete engineering drawing packages
- Establishes technical requirements with vendors and component suppliers
- Communicates with stress analysts throughout structural substantiation effort
- Works closely with other departments to clarify engineering drawing/document requirements
- Supports occasional design reviews with MS PowerPoint slide development
- Performs other related duties as assigned

Qualifications and Competencies
- Experience with typical aircraft metals (MMPDS), hardware (MS, NAS, AN, bolts, rivets, screws, nuts, bushings, etc.), aluminum & steel sheet metal, fiberglass, honeycomb panels, machined parts, welding & other manufacturing techniques
- Strong ability to read and interpret technical data, repair drawings and/or engineering drawings.
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
- Understanding of airframe structures & systems
- Strong understanding of aircraft repair procedures and structural analysis skills
- Excellent attention to detail and creative problem-solving skills
- Proficient in MS Office Suite and strong computer skills for report writing and analysis preparation
- Understanding of FAA rules and regulations
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance (US Citizenship is required)
Education / Certifications
- Degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering required
Experience
- 3-6 years’ experience with Catia VR5 design of aerospace/aircraft structural modifications or new design

AEVEX provides a reasonable range of compensation. Actual compensation is influenced by an array of factors including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, and specific location. The range of starting pay for this position is for the listed location only.
Salary Range
$100,600 - $110,300 USD
