Work Arrangement
This is an onsite position at Pope Field in North Carolina.
Job Overview
This position supports the C2ISR Data Transport Infrastructure by performing routine network diagnostics, monitoring, and connectivity verification across assigned network segments. The role assists with basic troubleshooting of common network issues and ensures accurate documentation, alert handling, and status reporting. Working under direct supervision, the position builds foundational expertise in network operations while utilizing standard enterprise tools, monitoring platforms, and ticketing systems.
Essential Functions
- Apply foundational networking concepts, including routing, switching, and firewall basics, to support diagnostic activities across C2ISR Data Transport Infrastructure.
- Perform end-to-end infrastructure testing and connectivity verification for assigned network segments using predefined test procedures.
- Monitor network performance and availability using standard network monitoring tools, identifying anomalies and reporting transport-related outages.
- Assist with initial troubleshooting of common network issues such as packet loss, latency, and device reachability, following established processes and escalation paths.
- Document test results, troubleshooting actions, and findings in accordance with program standards.
- Support proactive monitoring efforts by validating network device status, acknowledging alerts, and escalating issues when required.
- Work under direct supervision while executing routine diagnostic tasks and developing core competencies in C2ISR network troubleshooting methodologies.
- Utilize required technical platforms and tools, including ServiceNow, Jira, SolarWinds, SNMP based monitors, packet capture utilities (e.g., Wireshark), diagramming tools (Visio, Lucidchart), and endpoint/wireless diagnostic tools.
- Leverage enterprise tools such as Microsoft Power Platform, SharePoint, Confluence, and associated reporting or tracking systems to support documentation, workflow management, and operational visibility.
- Adhere to organizational standards, security requirements, and procedural guidance to ensure the integrity, reliability, and availability of C2ISR network transport infrastructure. Qualifications and Competencies
- Basic understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs)
- Familiarity with networking hardware and operating systems (e.g., Windows Server, Linux)
- Exposure to network monitoring or ticketing systems is a plus
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to learn quickly in a technical environment
- Good communication skills and ability to support non-technical users
- Attention to detail and documentation discipline
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Education / Certifications
- Bachelor's Degree Preferred.
- DoD-approved IA baseline certification for ADP-III/IT-III based on the IAT level and CE/Operating System (OS) certificate within six months of the assignment.
- DoD 8140 role for WRC: 441; Element: IT; Work Role: Network Operations Specialist; Proficiency Level: Basic / Ability to obtain
Experience
- 2+ years IT or network administration experience
- 0 years’ experience with a MS/MA
- 6 years’ experience with no degree.
- Previous experience as a Network Administrator or similar role supporting a DoD customer at the CCMD level;
