Business Controller

Amsterdam, Netherlands

Organisation

Anthos Fund & Asset Management is a values-based asset manager that stewards capital for professional investors who want to create a bigger impact together. We do this by responsibly managing capital in line with the values of sustainability, human dignity and good corporate citizenship.

Founded nearly 100 years ago to manage the assets of the Brenninkmeijer family, Anthos today also welcomes like-minded investors. We provide investment management and advisory services across public and private markets, including equities, fixed income, real estate, private equity and alternative investments.

Anthos is part of COFRA, a sixth-generation family-owned group of investment platforms and businesses active in asset management, private equity, real estate, retail, clean energy and sustainable food. Across all its activities, COFRA is guided by a shared ambition: to be a force for good in society and the environment.

The role

We are looking for a Business Controller to strengthen financial planning and control across Anthos. This is a new role, with the opportunity to build greater financial insight and discipline and establish a strong business control practice within the organisation. You will take ownership of budgeting, forecasting, financial planning and management information, helping us better understand where we stand, where we are heading and where action is needed.

You will have the opportunity and responsibility to shape business control within Anthos and be the subject-matter expert in your field. At the same time, Anthos is a close-knit organisation of around 80 colleagues, so you will work closely with people across the business. We are therefore looking for someone who enjoys taking ownership, getting into the detail and bringing others along.

What you will do

Financial planning & control

  • Lead the annual budgeting and long-term financial planning process and coordinate input across the organisation.
  • Prepare and maintain forecasts and financial scenarios, translating business developments into their expected financial impact.
  • Monitor financial performance, spending, commitments and run rates against budget and forecast, providing a clear view of expected full-year performance and identifying required actions.
  • Prepare financial input for quarterly business reviews and shareholder reporting, providing a clear view of performance, outlook, and key developments.
  • Maintain effective financial controls and reporting, ensuring budgets and forecasts remain up to date as circumstances change.
  • Provide management and budget owners with clear financial insights, constructively challenging assumptions, and supporting sound financial decision-making.

Business & investment economics

  • Support the development and review of client fee arrangements, including fixed fees, basis-point structures, and other fee mechanisms.
  • Provide financial analysis for investment and business proposals, including the economics and capacity implications of new product development, fund launches, Joint Ventures and other significant initiatives.
  • Analyse the assumptions and cost drivers underlying fee structures and provide insight into the revenues, costs and economics of clients and mandates.
  • Apply an understanding of investment management economics to budgeting, forecasting and financial decision-making.

 Financial coordination & governance

  • Coordinate with the holding company and other service providers on financial administration, reporting and related processes.
  • Ensure clear ownership and effective financial information flows between Anthos and centralised or outsourced finance activities.
  • Identify and address gaps in financial information, processes and controls, continuously improving the quality and effectiveness of financial planning and reporting.

What you bring

You are an experienced finance professional who likes to create clarity where it does not yet exist. You take ownership, work independently, and enjoy getting into the numbers yourself, while also being able to translate them into clear insights for others. You are comfortable asking questions and challenging assumptions, including with senior stakeholders, but are equally pragmatic, collaborative and willing to listen. You bring ideas and look for ways to improve financial insight and discipline.

Next to this, you bring:

  • A higher professional or university degree in Finance, Business Economics, Accounting or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in business control, FP&A or a comparable finance role.
  • Strong experience in budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, management reporting and financial analysis.
  • The ability to independently structure and drive financial processes and turn financial information into clear insights and actions.
  • Experience in investment management, or a good understanding of investment management economics, is an advantage.

What we offer

  • Hybrid working, with three days per week in our Amsterdam office
  • A healthy work-life balance and 31 days of annual leave.
  • Volunteering days and the opportunity to work abroad for up to four weeks per year.
  • A competitive compensation and benefits package, including participation in the Provisum pension scheme.
  • Additional benefits such as a home office budget, subsidised lunches, an in-house barista and a discounted gym membership.

Reference checks and a pre-employment screening are a final step of the hiring procedure.

We believe better decisions come from diverse perspectives and an inclusive culture. We are committed to providing equal opportunities for all and creating an environment where everyone is respected, valued and able to contribute fully. We encourage applications from individuals with different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives. If you are excited about the role but do not meet every requirement, we would still like to hear from you.
