Staff Solutions Engineer

Remote within U.S.

Afresh is the leading AI company in fresh food—partnering with grocers like Albertsons, Wakefern, Meijer, and Stater Bros to order billions of dollars of fresh food in over 12,000 grocery departments nationwide.

Following record-breaking 70% growth in 2025, we’ve expanded our platform to cover all fresh departments, launched our full store suite, and debuted DC Fresh Buying.

We’re on a mission to eliminate food waste and make fresh food accessible to all. In 2025 alone our software helped save 200M lbs of food waste. If you're looking for a role where your work directly translates into massive scale and social good, and you want to be part of the team that defines the future of fresh, there is no better time to join us.

About the Role

As a Solutions Engineer at Afresh, you will work directly with our grocery retail partners and Afresh colleagues to deploy our purpose-built fresh food solution and bring tangible, lasting impact to our partners. Externally, you will build effective partnerships with our customers to drive the success of our end-to-end integrations. You will utilize a unique skillset at the intersection of data architecture, operations, and predictive analytics to interpret customers business needs into technical design for integration to the Afresh platform. Internally, you'll help lead our integrations cross-functionally and act as the connecting force between our integration technology and customer’s operational reality as we build to an even larger scale.

You have significant experience managing customer relationships and leading technical projects in fast paced environments. You are excited to reduce fresh food waste in the grocery industry, and help the planet in the process!

What You’ll Do

A typical day might involve discussing data architecture with engineers, digging into customer data, and establishing technical implementation strategies and specifications for your team. Specifically, you will:

  • Lead multiple integration projects concurrently, managing technical delivery across customers while independently scoping novel projects like enhancements to existing integrations or new feature rollouts
  • Act as a subject matter expert on Afresh's integration architecture, defining and evolving standards for schema mapping, data contracts, ETL requirements, and documentation structure that enable repeatable, scalable solutions
  • Lead technical activities with customers, deeply understanding their IT systems and data outputs and how these map to the Afresh solution
  • Lead technical integration delivery across data engineering, product engineering, and data science; identify technical risks, develop mitigation strategies, and drive improvements to completion
  • Partner with Engineering and Product to prioritize backlog based on patterns you identify across customer implementations, translating repeat needs into product-aligned solutions
  • Drive organizational evolution for the SE team by building tools, templates, and playbooks that improve how SEs deliver work; lead onboarding and enablement programs that level up the team's capabilities
  • Represent the SE organization in strategic forums, contributing to roadmap planning and cross-functional initiatives that improve delivery velocity, quality, or customer outcomes
  • Balance business and customer needs with technical constraints to get cross-functional consensus on innovative solutions, acting as a consultant and partner to technical teams
  • Coach and mentor peer SEs, serving as a thought partner on complex technical problems, stakeholder dynamics, and effective collaboration across functions

Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex integration projects simultaneously and independently drive end-to-end scoping for ad-hoc or novel technical initiatives
  • Track record of building organizational capability—creating reusable frameworks, standards, or enablement programs that improved team execution or scalability
  • Experience influencing cross-functional stakeholders (Product, Engineering, GTM) through subject matter expertise and consistent delivery
  • This role is ideal for someone who is proficient in internal technical project management, and also excels in client-facing situations
  • Candidates must also possess data transformation and design experience, as well as proven abilities to work jointly with data engineers, data scientists, and subject matter experts to manage refinement and implementation of customer integration requirements
  • Organizational skills, strong attention to detail, and ability to communicate details across levels and profiles
  • Proficiency in SQL, Excel, and other dashboarding tools used in an analyst’s toolkit
  • Ability to continuously learn, work independently, and make decisions with minimal supervision to keep projects on track
  • Open to travel (up to 10%)

Nice to have:

  • Ideally, candidates would have an understanding of AI/ML systems and experience with identifying issues with data inputs used in predictive analysis
  • Commercial mindset that allows you to understand and act on what our customers care about most
  • Dedication to quality, testing, design processes, automation, and operational excellence
  • Strong ability to create clear action plans for cross-functional technical teams

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
