The Mid-Level Network Engineer will provide critical support to the DoD's Thunderdome initiative, a cybersecurity modernization effort focused on implementing Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) and advanced transport solutions across Department of Defense (DoD) networks. This position blends network engineering and cyber defense skills to design, configure, and sustain infrastructure that meets stringent mission assurance and security compliance standards.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Design, engineer, integrate, implement, test, deploy, maintain, review and administer infrastructure, hardware, and software to manage network security and risk posture in alignment with the organization's security strategy.
  • Apply systems engineering principles throughout the systems engineering lifecycle to translate cyber objectives, technology trends, and environmental conditions into effective engineering solutions.
  • Configure cyber systems to meet user requirements, ensuring that they are properly aligned with security policies and standards.
  • May develop or contribute to solutions to a variety of problems of moderate scope and complexity.
  • Develop or contribute to solutions for various problems of moderate scope and complexity. While working independently with some guidance, exercise problem-solving skills to address challenges encountered in network security operations.
  • Maintains an awareness of market and technology trends in order to bring best of breed solutions to the client.

Required Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

  • Clearance:
    • Must possess and maintain a current DoD Top Secret Clearance.
  • Experience:
    • Must have at least 3 years of experience in network and systems engineering roles, demonstrating a deep understanding of networking technologies, security solutions, and system administration.
  • Education and Certifications:
    • Bachelor's Degree in a related field required.
    • Must meet DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification requirements and maintain at least one of the specified certifications (CCNA-Security, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, Security+ CE, CND, or SSCP).
  • Location:
    • This is a remote role within the United States.
    • Must be able to travel to client sites, both within the continental United States (CONUS) and outside the continental United States (OCONUS), as needed (approximately 15-25% travel).
  • Skills and Knowledge:
    • Familiarity with and understanding of Zero Trust Architecture principles and implementation strategies. This includes implementing least privilege access controls, continuous authentication, and micro-segmentation to enhance network security. Experience with Versa Networks is a plus, demonstrating familiarity with specific network technologies and solutions.
    • Strong familiarity with network security solutions, including intrusion detection systems (IDS), firewall configurations, and other security measures.
    • Proficiency in routing and switching technologies, particularly with Juniper and Cisco hardware.
    • Experience in designing, implementing, and troubleshooting wireless networks.
    • A solid grasp of networking fundamentals, including network functions, routing protocols, configuration mappings, and network drawings.
    • Experience with various networking protocols such as BGP, static routing, IP multicast, and VPN technologies.
    • Experience with MS Windows operating systems and Active Directory for system administration tasks.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Visio) for documentation and presentation purposes.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential for presenting findings to Engineering Review Boards and effectively collaborating with team members.
    • Experience working in secure facilities, understanding high-side protocols, procedures, and security requirements.
    • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and lead projects independently.
    • Strong attention to detail for information gathering, analysis, troubleshooting, and presentation purposes.
    • Ability to interact effectively with team members while also being capable of working independently when necessary.

Work Environment and Physical Demand:

  • Will be working at a computer for extended periods of time.

Compensation: $120,000 - $135,000
