UX Designer / Front End Engineer (Anticipated)
Agile Six is a people-first, remote-work company that serves shoulder-to-shoulder with federal agencies to find innovative, human-centered solutions. We build better by putting people first. We are animated by our core values of Purpose, Wholeness, Trust, Self-Management and Inclusion. We deliver our solutions in autonomous teams of self-managed professionals (no managers here!) who genuinely care about each other and the work. We know that’s our company’s purpose – and that we can only achieve it by supporting a culture where people feel valued, self-managed, and love to come to work.
The role
Agile Six is looking for a UX Designer / Engineer to join a newly formed team working on an initiative to modernize and streamline critical government services.
This UX Designer / Engineer will bring a breadth of UX knowledge across the Human-Centered Design (HCD) process and the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC). The role involves collaborating with our team to design and implement complex, cross-disciplinary projects for government agencies and the people they serve, with the flexibility to contribute across a variety of products in our portfolio as needed.
Responsibilities include partnering on design and engineering activities such as creating and implementing accessible UI design and development. You have an adaptive, empathetic, and collaborative mindset, and care deeply about team dynamics. Most importantly, you’re passionate about working on meaningful problems that impact millions of users and help improve how government works.
Please note, this position is anticipated, pending contract award response.
Responsibilities
- Design deliverables – Create artifacts at all levels of fidelity throughout the design process, from early sketches to wireframes to polished prototypes, leveraging AI tools to accelerate iteration and generate working code.
- Design system implementation – Apply the U.S. Web Design System (USWDS) and reusable design patterns across the portfolio, collaborating with the Design System team to iterate and improve shared components.
- Accessibility compliance – Ensure all designs and code meet Section 508 and WCAG standards; update deliverables to maintain inclusive, accessible user experiences.
- AI-assisted development – Responsibly use AI-powered IDEs (e.g. Copilot, Cursor) to analyze code, generate features, write tests, and debug issues, while reviewing all outputs for quality.
- UI component development – Build accessible frontend components using industry-standard languages and frameworks that adhere to modern UX patterns, USWDS standards, and relevant API guidelines.
- Testing & quality assurance – Write and maintain automated unit, integration, and accessibility tests to cover all delivered functionality.
- Frontend delivery in Agile – Contribute to accessible, performant, and scalable frontend applications by collaborating closely with teammates in a cross-functional Agile team.
- Collaboration & workflow – Pair program, participate in peer reviews and post-mortems, and incorporate lessons learned into continuous improvement.
- Product alignment – Partner with product managers and technical leads to ensure implementation matches design intent across all deliverables.
- Stakeholder communication – Engage effectively with team members and stakeholders across disciplines to maintain shared understanding and alignment.
- We expect the responsibilities of this position to shift and grow organically over time, in response to considerations such as the unique strengths and interests of the selected candidate and other team members and an evolving understanding of the delivery environment
