AI Solution Engineer

United States, Remote

Agile Six is a people-first, remote-work company that serves shoulder-to-shoulder with federal agencies to find innovative, human-centered solutions. We build better by putting people first. We are animated by our core values of Purpose, Wholeness, Trust, Self-Management and Inclusion. We deliver our solutions in autonomous teams of self-managed professionals (no managers here!) who genuinely care about each other and the work. We know that’s our company’s purpose – and that we can only achieve it by supporting a culture where people feel valued, self-managed, and love to come to work.

The role

Agile Six is looking for team members with experience using modern technology in cross-functional teams to quickly turn ideas into reality. We’re building a workforce of empathetic, human-centered AI power users—people who apply AI tools effectively, responsibly, and creatively to improve government services.

For this role, we’re looking for a Software Engineer with hands-on experience digitizing forms to join a collaborative team working with the Department of Veterans Affairs on an ambitious initiative to digitize a number of forms by 11/11 (Veteran’s Day) to improve the delivery of services to Veterans. By delivering high quality, functional software informed by user feedback and research, our team will increase access to critical services, directly impacting and improving the lives of Veterans.

The successful candidate will bring a bias to action and tenacious problem-solving skills, tackling complex challenges with speed, persistence, and creativity. They will be adept at leveraging AI across the development process—from researching and discovering potential solutions to prototyping, implementation, and rigorous testing/verification—to quickly deliver results. Just as importantly, they will be able to communicate, evangelize, and scale effective development practices to support multi-person, cross-functional teams. Whether driving a proof of concept or sustaining secure production services, we value individuals who combine curiosity, resilience, action-oriented creativity and responsible AI use to move work forward in the face of uncertainty.

We’re also intentional about the culture we’re creating. We look for adaptive, empathetic, and collaborative teammates who care deeply about one another and are passionate about solving meaningful problems that impact millions of people. We welcome individuals from diverse, multidisciplinary backgrounds—including product, research, design, engineering, data, and delivery—who thrive in collaborative environments and can leverage a holistic understanding of the software development process.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, evaluate, and assemble AI-powered tools into effective toolchains for rapid form development and processing.
  • Quickly build and test digital form prototypes, validating hypotheses with VA stakeholders through iterative feedback loops.
  • Help cross-functional teams adopt AI workflows to develop and maintain production systems.
  • Apply systems thinking and problem-solving to create solutions that meet both user and stakeholder needs.
  • Partner with product, design, engineering, and delivery teams, bringing in specialized expertise as needed.
  • Use hypothesis-driven approaches to prototype and evaluate products, services, and systems.
  • Share insights to strengthen Agile Six’s collective practice of effective and responsible AI.
  • Build digital forms within vets-website using the VA design system; integrate with vets-api submission endpoints.
  • Implement validations, conditional logic, accessibility compliance, and PDF/JSON generation via the PDFFill library.
  • Create workflows for third-party participants (e.g., employers, medical providers) that generate CMP-compliant packets.
  • Ensure proper handling of PII in form elements and data flows.
  • Write tests for form logic, validations, accessibility (axe, pa11y), and PDF/JSON integrity.

Basic qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with AI tools and enabling technologies to design, build, and deploy software/services
  • Ability to rapidly vet ideas and test solution hypotheses using a variety of AI frameworks (e.g., Vercel V0, Claude, Loveable, Cursor, Copilot, Devin).
  • Holistic understanding of UX research, product design, engineering, hosting, security, and testing; able to apply systems-level thinking to deliver high-quality features and products in complex, ambiguous environments.
  • Extensive experience building interactive features with vets-website and integrating with vets-api; familiarity with vets-json-schema a plus.
  • Proficiency in React/TypeScript and Node.js or Python (for workflow APIs); Ruby on Rails experience a plus. Skilled in accessibility (WCAG, Section 508), PDF generation, JSON serialization, and VA PDFFill library.
  • Strong experience with automated test frameworks (Cypress, Playwright) integrated into development workflows.
  • Familiar with data governance, model evaluation, and the responsible use of AI; interest in contributing to Agile Six’s emerging AI Community of Practice.
  • Has lived and worked in the United States for 3 out of the last 5 years
  • Some of our clients may request or require travel from time to time. If this is a concern for you, we encourage you to apply and discuss it with us at your initial interview

Additional desired qualifications

  • Familiarity with the US Web Design System
  • Familiarity with Section-508 and WCAG 2.1AA Accessibility requirements, standards, and testing tools
  • You are a U.S. Veteran. As a service-disabled veteran-owned small business, we welcome and encourage Veterans to apply

At Agile Six, we are committed to building teams that represent a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills. Even if you don't meet every requirement, we encourage you to apply. We’re eager to meet people who believe in our mission and who can contribute to our team in a variety of ways.

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
