Space Exploration Manager

Located in Durango, CO, (Headquarters) and Mount Pleasant, PA (Additive Manufacturing Center) Agile Space Industries, Inc. (AGILE) designs, builds, and tests in-space propulsion systems for satellites and spacecraft. AGILE uses state of the art 3D metal alloy printing techniques to rapidly design, manufacture, and test new engine designs in our purpose-built propulsion test facility. With over a decade of experience testing rocket engines, and engineers who have worked at industry leaders like Blue Origin, SpaceX, NASA, and Rocketdyne, AGILE is a rapidly growing company with many exciting Defense, Civil and Commercial programs.

DESCRIPTION: 

AGILE is seeking a passionate, talented, and results-driven Space Exploration Manager to join our Business Development team. The successful candidate will help shape our civil space product offerings and evangelize offerings to the community. They will be the main interface with our most strategic civil space customers prior to contract award and will lead the formation of the best technical and programmatic solutions. The SE Manager will instill confidence in our customers of the AGILE solution by providing informed, transparent, and timely communications. They will be responsible for managing and expanding our portfolio of civil space customers and partners. This role requires an in-depth understanding of the civil space propulsion systems market, existing connections with civil space stakeholders, excellent relationship-building skills, and a proven track record within the space sector. 

JOB DETAILS: 

  • Civil Space Thought Leader: Be an expert on the civil space Ecosystem including the NASA, ESA, JAXA, and NOAA ambitions as well as the strategies taken by the prime contractors and academia. 
  • Relationship Management: Determine the most strategically important civil space stakeholders for propulsion needs and propulsion technology development. Build and maintain strong relationships with the key stakeholders within the government agencies, prime contractors, academia, and commercial partners. 
  • Business Development Execution: Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the civil space market. Develop and execute strategic plans to grow the customer base and drive revenue growth. 
  • Product Strategy: Work closely with engineering, product development, and the Chief Commercial Officer (COO) to ensure that AGILE is investing in the most strategically valuable product developments and is offering a product suite that will have the largest impact on the civil space sector. 
  • Market Strategy: Develop and implement effective sales strategies and tactics to meet or exceed orders targets. Evangelize AGILE’s civil space product strategy and vision to prospective customers and the internal AGILE team. 
  • Proposal Management: Lead the preparation of proposals, including the coordination of technical, financial, operational, and contractual inputs. Ensure timely and accurate submission of proposals to customers. 
  • Market Analysis: Conduct market research to stay informed about industry trends, competitive landscape, and potential opportunities. Provide insights and recommendations to the AGILE staff. 
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with engineering and project management teams to ensure customer requirements are met and projects are delivered on time and within budget. 
  • Customer Support: Provide ongoing support to customers, addressing any issues or concerns promptly and effectively. Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and retention. 
  • Networking: Attend industry conferences and travel to customer and partner organization sites to represent the company, network with potential customers, and stay current on industry developments. 

 QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Education: B.S. or advanced degree in related engineering or technical field 
  • Aerospace Experience: Minimum 10+ years of aerospace experience. NASA or civil space prime contractor direct working experience 
  • Propulsion Experience: Minimum 2+ years of propulsion related component or systems engineering, orbital trajectory planning, or space vehicle design (including propulsion selection) 
  • BD Experience: Minimum 2+ years supporting proposal creation, business development, or customer interactions with a focus on the civil space sector. 
  • Knowledge: In-depth understanding of the civil space industry, including key players, market dynamics, and regulatory environment. 

SKILLS: 

  • Effective communicator with strong oral, public speaking, writing, and PowerPoint skills Strong negotiation and closing skills. 
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with customers and internal teams. 
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities. 

ATTRIBUTES: 

  • Self-motivated and results-oriented. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 
  • Schedule must have flexibility to accommodate the tight deadlines and unexpected high-priority tasks associated with aerospace business development. 
  • Willingness to travel as needed (25% to 50%). 
  • Collaborative, positive, team player with a willingness to jump in and support our team members as needed. 

PREFERRED SKILLS: 

  • Program management experience is preferred but not required 
  • Experience specifying and procuring propulsion systems for space vehicles 
  • Chemical propulsion system engineering or testing experience 

Employment Type: Full-Time

Remote: Remote work is acceptable for this position with a willingness to travel as needed. Travel is expected to be up to 50% at steady state and potentially more in the first few months. 

The salary range for this position is $160,000 - $200,000
