A Snapshot
As the Principal Mechanical Engineer, reporting to our Services and Commissioning Director, (based in our HQ in Sydney), you will work closely with our development and technology team, making an impact in several ways:
- Design delivery lead of mechanical services numerous projects in APJ managing through from concept design to approved for construction documentation.
- Building and ensuring governance throughout the mechanical design process of new data centre projects.
- Working closely with external teams including general contractors, suppliers, design consultants and customers to meet all AirTrunk technical design requirements, to enable successful commissioning and operational handover.
- Working closely with internal teams including the development, design, and operational teams to support in mechanical equipment selection, design development and risk mitigation.
- Work closely with our commissioning team to resolve design related issues identified during project testing and commissioning (T&C)
- Collaborating with AirTrunk's APJ development and safety teams to drive the safety and quality standards in mechanical/hydraulic/fire services design and optimization.
Your Day to Day
- Oversee general contractors in developing mechanical, fire, hydraulic and fuel design submissions from concept through IFC (Issued for Construction)
- Conduct detailed design reviews of the general contractor lead submission of the mechanical and building services to identify project risks and non-conformances. to the AirTrunk Technical Specifications.
- Work closely peer reviewers and the Design Team to drive issue resolution of contractor’s design.
- Work closely with the AirTrunk Design team in the development of the concept designs to ensure buildability and equipment selection is optimised for successful construction and delivery.
- Work closely with the AirTrunk Cost team to identify cost saving and value engineering (VE) opportunities
- Work closely with the AirTrunk Product Development team to enhance designs of OSE (Owner Supplied Equipment)
- Attend general contractor lead design presentations, to review interface with CSA (civil, structural architecture) and OSE.
- Conduct reviews of contractor 3D models to ensure coordination, appropriate access to building services is provided.
- Contribute to SiD (Safety in Design) workshops and provide expert feedback to the design team to mitigate safety risk in construction and operations of the data centres.
- Provide technical support to the AirTrunk Commissioning Team if design driven issues are identified during IST (Integrated Systems Testing)
- Occasionally conduct site visits to ensure installation mechanical services are installed in accordance with approved design documentation.
- Occasionally travel to AirTrunk Data Centres in APJ to conduct site, design and opportunity reviews.
- Occasionally attend and provide expert advice on risks and opportunities through equipment Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) a proof-of-concept testing.
Requirements
- Demonstrated 10+ years' electrical or building services design and construction experience (data center experience is preferred)
- Hold a Bachelor’s and or Masters of Engineering (Electrical) from an Australian or equivalent University.
- Experience with designing and or deciphering electrical protection and grading studies.
- Incredibly flexible and adaptable to a dynamic fast-paced, collaborative environment
- Willing to make decisions and be accountable for them.
- Excel at communication with the ability to deliver effective presentations on data center design to customers, peers, and management.
***This role is predominantly based in our North Sydney, HQ but the role will require you to travel overseas occasionally***
