Legal Counsel, Customer Contracts
A Snapshot
We are seeking a talented Legal Counsel to join our Customer Contracts Legal team! This is a fixed term contract (15 months) for parental leave coverage, with potential opportunity to extend. You will play a key role advising on complex and high-value commercial transactions with global cloud, content and large enterprise customers seeking to build and expand their hyperscale data centre capacity. In this role, you will lead and provide strategic legal guidance to support the successful execution of these transactions, delivering great outcomes for our business and customers while mitigating legal risks. Your Day to Day
- Contract Negotiation: Manage complex customer contract negotiations related to the development of data centre capacity, data centre leasing and provision of colocation services including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contract terms
- Risk Mitigation: Identify key legal risks associated with customer contracts and data centre operations, and offer strategic legal advice to senior management and key business units to mitigate these risks
- Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, and customers, to ensure our projects align with customer expectations and company standards
- Legal Strategy: Contribute to the development of and lead legal strategies and process improvements that support the company's rapid growth and achieve business objectives
- Compliance and Governance: Stay informed of legal and regulatory developments impacting the data centre industry in regions of operation (APAC), proactively managing regulatory compliance
Requirements
- LLB/Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school, with admission to the bar or local equivalent
- Minimum 5 years of experience practicing law (with at least 3 years at a law firm), with a focus on large commercial, real estate or tech transactions
- Strong preference for experience in data centre leases and/or colocation services agreements. Knowledge of data centre design and operations is a bonus
- Strong technical drafting skills with demonstrated expertise negotiating complex commercial agreements
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to assess legal and regulatory risks in a business context
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders and customers
- Friendly, enjoys being challenged and working hard in a collaborative team environment
- Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
