A Snapshot

As the Knowledge Management Lawyer based in our HQ in Sydney, you will report to the Senior Director, Legal - Operations and work closely with various teams and leadership across the Asia Pacific region, making your mark in a number of ways:

  • You will manage, organise, and enhance the legal knowledge function, ensuring consistency, efficiency, and compliance across the legal and business teams.
  • The Knowledge Management Lawyer will take responsibility for developing precedents, maintaining legal resources, and supporting learning and development initiatives within the legal function.

Your Day to Day

Precedent Development:

  • Develop and maintain a library of legal precedents, templates, playbooks, negotiation guides, automated documents, practice notes, checklists, toolkits  and resources that reflect current legal standards and business requirements.
  • Identify gaps in existing precedents and drive the creation of new materials to support ongoing legal work.
  • Ensure all precedents and templates are regularly reviewed and updated in line with legal developments and business needs.

Knowledge Management:

  • Oversee the legal knowledge management system, ensuring all materials are accessible, up-to-date, and well organised.
  • Capture and document key legal insights, decisions, and lessons learned from ongoing work to support future legal and business activities.
  • Collecting know-how from lawyers, reviewing this and making it available via a knowledge system / database
  • Ensure effective processes for retrieving and sharing legal knowledge across teams.

Learning and Development:

  • Facilitate and lead internal training sessions for the legal team and other relevant business units, ensuring a culture of continuous learning, including know-how meetings to ensure that new developments, legal and practical knowledge and experience is shared.
  • Monitor legal developments (legislative, regulatory, case law) and provide updates to keep the team informed of relevant changes.
  • Develop learning resources to support the ongoing development and upskilling of the legal team.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Work closely with compliance and risk teams to ensure the business meets all applicable legal and regulatory obligations.
  • Draft, review, and update internal policies and procedures to reflect current regulatory compliance standards.
  • Assist the legal team in interpreting and applying relevant laws and regulations to the company’s operations.

Collaboration and Support:

  • Collaborate with other members of the legal team to streamline legal processes and maintain consistency in the application of legal standards.
  • Support key transactions and projects by providing the legal team with the resources, templates, and knowledge needed for effective decision-making.
  • Work cross-functionally with stakeholders in legal, risk, compliance, and operations to ensure alignment between knowledge management practices and business objectives.

Requirements/Skills:

  • Law degree from an accredited law school and passed the bar/hold a license to practice law and at least 8 years PQE.
  • Strong background in legal knowledge management, with experience in managing and evolving a knowledge management function.
  • Proven experience in developing and maintaining legal precedents and templates.
  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks relevant to the business and ability to monitor and interpret legal changes.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage a large volume of resources.
  • Effective communicator, capable of delivering training and engaging with multiple stakeholders across the business.
  • The ability to digest, analyse and succinctly communicate complex issues with clarity to both internal and external clients.
  • Interest in or experience of legal technology, including document automation, AI based tools and document execution tools
  • To be self-initiating and take a pro-active approach towards projects; seek direction and advice as needed but also prepared to take ownership and progress tasks independently.
  • The ability to communicate effectively and clearly in a multi-cultural environment.

This role is critical for supporting the legal team with the tools, resources, and knowledge needed to meet ongoing business and regulatory requirements.
