A Snapshot

As the Critical Environment Specialist, Electrical reporting directly to the Associate Director, Electrical Systems in Critical Environments (who is based in Sydney), you will work closely with the JHB DC Operations and Development teams making your mark in a number of ways:

  • Lead high voltage switching operations and apply an accepted methodology to ensure the safe operation of all high-voltage equipment. This is both MV and HV.
  • Engaging with our General Contractors, and our DC operations team to develop Methods of Procedures (MOPs) to ensure they meet all of our risk mitigation and safety requirements.
  • Work with a class-leading commissioning team to deliver technically accurate and timely projects for our customers.
  • Provide support to our Operations teams for Low Voltage equipment, ranging from our incoming utility voltages up to 275kV, and everything in between.

*Please note this role will be based in our Data Centers in Johor Bahru.

Your Day to Day

  • Author high voltage switching instructions and then lead a peer review session to confirm the accuracy of the switching procedure.
  • Prepare MOPS (Method of Procedure) for construction integration works.
  • Work alongside of AirTrunk’s Development and Power Utility teams to integrate and commission new medium voltage and high voltage apparatus as our site develops.
  • Liaise with relevant Malaysian electrical authorities to provide any required internal isolations or maintenance works, Including relevant updating of our IOM.
  • Review and assist in MOP preparation from other related partners.
  • Lead the maintenance and inspection of the medium and high voltage infrastructure (up to 275kV).
  • Assist our commissioning team with electrical-related apparatus. May include, medium voltage, high voltage apparatus, and low voltage. Example, kiosks, generators, or uninterruptible power supplies.
  • Assist in supporting our operations team as well as our Commissioning and Tech teams in low medium and high voltage infrastructure.
  • Assist in design reviews for new projects.
  • Leading or assisting in handling sub-contractors on behalf of Ops during normal maintenance or during development construction integration phases.
  • Have thorough understanding of all electrical requirements that pertain to private networks in Malaysia.
  • Assist AirTrunk’s safety team during incident investigations, by supplying technical knowledge and mentorship.

Requirements

  • 8+years of experience as an Electrical Engineer or similar role in Transmission Substation.
  • Bachelor's Degree/Post Graduate Diploma/Professional Degree in Engineering (Electrical/Electronic) or equivalent.
  • Competent Resident Engineer certificate registered with Suruhanjaya Tenaga – min. 275kV and above.
  • Ability to read single-line diagrams and interpret them.
  • UPS, Generator, Data Center experience preferred.
  • Ability to stay calm and calculated in high-stress environments.
  • Great communicator in both English and Malay.
