A Snapshot
As the Design Engineer, you will report to the Director, Design, based in Tokyo and work closely with the rest of the Technology team, making your mark in a number of ways:
- Developing high level space planning and engineering solutions for potential new developments (feasibility planning)
- Defining MEP solutions for Japan (and other regions as required)

Your Day to Day
- Produce consultant briefs in order to develop designs from feasibility stage through concept, schematic and detailed design stages, ensuring continuity of design philosophy and approach.
- Manage consultants and design teams during the different phases of design development.
- Ensure quality assurance and design checks are undertaken on the consultants' design documentation.
- Coordinate technical aspects of direct procured equipment and facilitate alignment with the design team.
- Develop innovative, customer focused MEP designs.
- Provide guidance in commissioning processes & attend factory & IST testing occasionally when required.
- Engage with customers on their technical solutions.
- Undertake research to develop & present strategic technical recommendations to key stakeholders.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) design
- Fluent in English and Japanese (reading, writing, and presentation ability)
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or relevant experience in product design or commissioning
- Project lifecycle experience within the Japanese construction industry is a must
- Incredibly flexible and forward-thinking as you must be ready for a continuous change of directions
- Willing to make decisions and be accountable for them
- Excel at communication; you can deliver effective presentations on data centre design to customers, peers and management
- Good leadership acumen to lead multi-disciplinary teams
