A Snapshot
As the HV Site Engineer reporting to the Associate Director, HV Infrastructure, you will work closely with our Technology, Development, Construction, Commissioning and Operations teams, making your mark in several ways:
- Lead the safe and effective on-site delivery of high voltage (HV) infrastructure across AirTrunk projects, ensuring installations meet approved designs, quality requirements, programme commitments and operational needs
- Coordinate contractors, consultants, network service providers and internal teams through construction, testing, energisation, commissioning and handover
- Provide practical site-based engineering solutions to HV issues, with a strong focus on safety, constructability, reliability and continuity of operations
Your Day to Day
- Manage the on-site delivery of HV networks across new and existing AirTrunk sites, ensuring work is completed safely and in accordance with approved designs, applicable codes, standards and AirTrunk requirements
- Oversee the installation of HV equipment and systems, including switchgear, transformers, protection relays, SCADA, earthing, cabling and DC systems
- Review issued-for-construction drawings, specifications, method statements, inspection and test plans, safe work method statements and vendor documentation before site execution
- Supervise and collaborate with principal contractors, specialist subcontractors and suppliers to achieve safe, practical and high-quality outcomes on time and within budget
- Complete site inspections, monitor workmanship and quality records, and drive the timely resolution of non-conformances, defects and punch-list items
- Coordinate HV access, isolations, permits and switching activities with authorised personnel, Site Specialists and Operations teams
- Act as the site technical interface between designers, consultants, contractors, vendors, network service providers and AirTrunk stakeholders
- Support testing, energisation and commissioning activities, including witnessing tests, reviewing results and confirming that systems are ready for safe operation
- Prepare and review methods of procedure, switching plans and other site execution documents in conjunction with the Site Specialist and commissioning teams
- Resolve site queries, constructability issues, clashes and design discrepancies through timely technical clarification and controlled change processes
- Support the investigation and resolution of HV incidents, standing issues and emerging technical risks that fall outside local Operations capability
- Identify opportunities to improve safety, programme, cost, quality and system performance, and share lessons learned across projects
- Ensure complete project handover, including as-built drawings, test records, operation and maintenance manuals, asset information, training and outstanding-action close-out
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum five years of experience in HV construction, site engineering or project delivery, preferably within data centres, critical infrastructure, utilities or large-scale industrial projects.
- Strong practical knowledge of HV equipment and installations, including switchgear, transformers, protection systems, SCADA, earthing, cabling and auxiliary DC systems.
- Working knowledge of applicable Australian electrical standards, network service provider requirements, workplace health and safety obligations and HV safe systems of work.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret single-line diagrams, schematics, layouts, specifications and issued-for-construction documentation.
- Experience reviewing method statements, safe work method statements, inspection and test plans, test documentation and contractor quality records.
- Sound understanding of HV installation, testing, protection, energisation, commissioning and operational handover requirements.
- Experience supervising contractors and coordinating multiple work fronts within a live construction environment.
- Strong commitment to electrical safety, permit-to-work controls, risk management and high-quality site execution.
- Ability to identify and resolve technical, constructability and interface issues while maintaining programme and operational priorities.
- Experience managing RFIs, non-conformances, defects, punch lists, red-line mark-ups and as-built documentation.
- Competency with common engineering and document-control tools; familiarity with AutoCAD, PowerFactory, ETAP or similar applications is advantageous.
- Effective communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the confidence to coordinate contractors, consultants, authorities and multidisciplinary internal teams.
- Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills with close attention to detail.
- A collaborative, accountable and delivery-focused approach, with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced site environment.
- Willingness to travel to AirTrunk project sites as required.
