Work Hours:
- Monday and Wednesday: 9:00 am – 7:00 pm
- Tuesday and Thursday: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
- Friday: 10:00 am – 2:00 pm
Position Overview:
- Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments, including mental status exams and risk assessments
- Obtain and document vital signs
- Order and draw bloodwork
- Administer long-acting injectable medications and other prescribed treatments
- Triage patient calls and walk-ins, assessing urgency and directing care appropriately
- Provide patient and family education regarding diagnoses, medications, and treatment plans
- Monitor patients for medication effectiveness, side effects, and adverse reactions
- Attend to all patient requests for refills including checking I-STOP and queueing up medications
- Provide patient education on general medical issues that impact mental health
- Respond to all patient clinical questions in a timely manner and work with providers to determine next steps
- Coordinate care with psychiatrists, therapists, primary care providers, and case managers
- Interface with other providers in the Center for shared patient issues including women’s health, pediatrics, adult medicine, internal medicine, and acute care
- Complete all patient paperwork in a timely manner
- Obtain prior authorizations, including appeals when indicated, for medications
- Contact patients to review lab results and next steps
- Keep treatment plans up to date including initial treatment plans and follow-up treatment plans
- Track screening labs for lithium, Depakote, and atypical antipsychotics and inform providers when these are due
- Perform quarterly chart audits for all psychiatric providers
- AIMS test annually for patients who take atypical antipsychotics
- Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation in the electronic health record (EHR)
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and staff meetings
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA and regulatory standards
Minimum Qualifications:
- Active RN license in NY
- CPR certification
- Strong assessment and critical thinking skills
- Good time management skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong commitment to the team
- Self-motivated for personal and professional growth
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1-2 years of psychiatric nursing experience or Certification in Psychiatric–Mental Health Nursing (PMH-BC)
- Phlebotomy experience
- Experience administering long-acting injectable antipsychotics
- Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques
Pay & Benefits:
- $38-$42 per hour, commensurate with experience.
