Location:
Ideally, this role will be based at Akaysha's Head Office in Melbourne, Cremorne. We'd also consider our Sydney office as an alternate location.

The role:

Akaysha Energy is a leading developer, owner, and operator of grid-scale battery energy storage systems. We are dedicated to advancing renewable energy solutions and ensuring grid stability through cutting-edge battery storage technology. As we continue to scale, we seek a highly skilled and technically proficient Financial Controller to oversee our financial reporting and compliance functions. The Financial Controller will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of all financial information, managing financial reporting, and overseeing compliance across Australian and international corporate and project entities. This role will lead a team of financial accountants and collaborate closely with external advisors, regulatory bodies, and internal stakeholders to maintain best-in-class financial governance.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of all financial reporting, including statutory accounts and management reports.
  • Review significant and complex accounting transactions, ensuring compliance with AASB9 and other relevant accounting standards.
  • Oversee the workflow and performance of a team of four financial accountants.
  • Manage external Big Four advisors to ensure timely and accurate reporting and month-end close.
  • Develop and review accounting policy papers, ensuring alignment with industry best practices.
  • Oversee revenue recognition processes by analyzing and assessing settlements data.
  • Ensure full compliance with tax obligations, including income tax, GST, and payroll tax, for both Australian and international entities.
  • Manage payroll operations, ensuring timely and accurate processing.
  • Ensuring proper controls of accounting operations (Invoicing of Electricity generated, monitoring of receivables, payments, etc.)
  • Monitoring debt drawdown, and compliance with debt covenants and mandatory operational and financial reports
  • Provision of required reports under the facility agreements
  • Lead the annual external Big4 audit.
  • Assist the finance team in resolving complex technical accounting issues.

What you'll bring:

  • Chartered Accountant (CA) qualification.
  • Big Four experience (audit or private enterprise).
  • Extensive experience in energy, utilities, or infrastructure industries.
  • Deep technical expertise in AASB9 and financial instruments accounting.
  • Proven ability to manage statutory reporting, with at least nine years of financial reporting experience (including two to three years in a senior financial leadership role).
  • Strong tax compliance knowledge and experience.

Highly Desirable Skills & Experience:

  • Hedge accounting experience.
  • Payroll management experience.
  • US GAAP knowledge.
  • Proficiency in Xero, Excel, and WorkDay.
