Remote Operations Engineer

Portland, Oregon, United States

Are you ready to help build a brighter, cleaner tomorrow?

At Akaysha Energy, we’re building big, fast, and with purpose. Since 2021, we’ve grown to over 200 people across four countries, and we’re proud to lead the energy transition with mega-scale battery storage solutions that we design, build, own and operate.

Backed by BlackRock, we’re a portfolio company under Global Infrastructure Partners working to make clean, reliable energy accessible around the world. But what we are really building is a better future for everyone we share the planet with.

As a Remote Operations Engineer, you’ll be the central figure overseeing Akaysha’s BESS projects in the evening, acting as a primary contact for internal teams and external partners. Your expertise keeps system performance and reliability at its peak and your decisions will help maximize platform performance and revenue, directly influencing project success. You’ll triage and resolve complex operational issues, respond to alarms, and support onsite colleagues with confidence and precision.

By monitoring and operating the platform in line with established procedures and agreements, you’ll assist in maximizing performance and revenue. You’ll maintain detailed, real-time logs to ensure seamless shift handovers, with your attention to detail highly valued.

Collaboration is essential, as you’ll communicate updates to field service teams and third-party ROC partners; escalating critical matters with accuracy and urgency. Your familiarity with system platforms and operational documentation will assist in ensuring continuous improvement that will refine Akaysha’s operational procedures and drive innovation.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Monitor BESS system health using SCADA, EMS, HMI, and proprietary platforms.
  • Triage and resolve operational issues, alarms, and performance concerns.
  • Act as primary contact for internal teams and external partners during office hours.
  • Communicate updates and coordinate troubleshooting with field and ROC teams.
  • Maintain real-time logs of system status, events, and issue resolution.
  • Ensure accurate shift handovers for operational continuity.
  • Escalate critical issues promptly and clearly.
  • Document operational procedures and troubleshooting workflows.
  • Support product and process improvements through structured feedback.
  • Coordinate with ISO, grid utilities, and emergency services as needed.

What you’ll bring:

  • Proficiency in StackOS controls, monitoring, and operations within CCUI, ensuring smooth oversight of system health and device performance.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the various StackOS applications accessible via CCUI, including the controls for multiple device types across the platform.
  • Familiarity with HMI and PST command lines, allowing for efficient navigation, troubleshooting, and execution of operational commands.
  • Ability to accurately read and interpret electrical onelines, device IP addresses, and utilize HMI/PST command lines for hands-on system management.
  • Expertise in issue prioritization, triage, and escalation—maintaining composure in high-pressure, rapidly changing environments, while tracking operational changes across multiple windows and platforms.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, with experience collaborating on various digital platforms such as email, SharePoint, OneDrive, Confluence, Slack, and Teams.
  • Proficient in utilizing ticketing systems like JIRA to keep up to date with workflows, and skilled in both finding and creating clear documentation and process guides as needed.

If you’re interested in tackling complex operational challenges and want to drive seamless energy platform performance at Akaysha, this opportunity will allow your skills and insights to make a direct impact on the reliability and success of projects that matter.

We believe diverse teams build better solutions for the planet and its people. We’re committed to creating a workplace where everyone feels respected, supported, and able to do their best work, no matter their background, identity, or lived experience.
