Senior Manager, Grid Connection & Technology

Brisbane, Queensland, Australia; Cremorne, Victoria, Australia; Sydney, New South Wales, Australia

The world is making the shift to cleaner energy, slowly. The planet is changing, fast.

That’s why Akaysha builds, owns, and operates the most powerful mega-scale battery storage solutions of today, and it’s why we’ll continue to build more. But what we are really building is a better future for everyone we share the planet with.

With a 30GWh+ portfolio spanning APAC, the Americas, and the EU and a global team of over 200, should we slow down, or should the world catch up?

As a Senior Manager, Grid Connection and Technology you’ll be leading the team responsible for the technical delivery of grid connection, registration and compliance activities across complex BESS projects, translating power system, regulatory and technology requirements into practical project outcomes from design through to commissioning.

The position will lead and develop a high-performing technical team while staying close to delivery of GPS, R1/R2 modelling, hold point readiness, approvals and grid compliance. Partnering across the wider business, the role will guide capability, performance and technical decisions to optimise design and connection strategies, while managing technical, regulatory, cost, schedule and revenue impacts.

The role connects grid, technology and commercial decision-making to optimise project outcomes, with your work making a tangible impact as you:

  • Lead portfolio-wide grid connection and registration delivery, including GPS development, R1/R2 modelling and validation, hold point readiness, final approvals, risk mitigation and senior technical escalation.
  • Manage grid compliance and regulatory obligations across the portfolio, tracking performance standards, registration conditions and commitments, while resolving non-compliances and maintaining clear visibility of risk.
  • Partner with Commercial, F&I, Delivery and Engineering teams to optimise project design, equipment selection and connection strategies, balancing technical risk, cost, schedule and revenue impacts.
  • Coordinate modelling priorities with project schedules, connection milestones and engineering delivery, identifying risks early, escalating issues and driving timely cross-functional resolution.
  • Translate emerging technology into project outcomes through GPS studies, OEM model development, R2 test plans and commissioning strategies, supporting advanced inverter and grid-forming technologies.
  • Lead technical due diligence, component selection and market standards investigations across PCS, control systems, BOP and battery technologies to support scalable, compliant project growth.

This role provides the flexibility to be based at Akaysha’s Melbourne (HQ), Sydney or Brisbane Offices with the option to work in hybrid capacity – spend time in the office, and at home.

This position will rely on experience across the following areas:

  • Applying expert knowledge of NEM grid connection processes, including GPS, R1/R2 requirements, AEMO and NSP standards, and regulatory frameworks across multiple markets.
  • Power system modelling and analysis for inverter-based resources, including BESS and renewables, using PSSE, PSCAD and PowerFactory to support connection, registration and compliance.
  • Acting as the senior technical interface with OEMs, consultants, AEMO, NSPs and internal teams to resolve complex technical and compliance issues.
  • Leading technical due diligence, identifying grid connection and technology risks, and providing evidence-based recommendations for equipment and design decisions.
  • Applying strong capability in grid-forming and grid-following inverter controls, system strength services, fast frequency response and emerging network support technologies.

We’re committed to staying ahead of the curve and consider our people to be Akaysha’s greatest asset.

To foster career growth and well-being, we offer professional development support that includes an annual development allowance and additional paid time off, a flexible-use wellbeing allowance, paid parental leave, competitive compensation, performance-based bonuses and long-term incentives.

We believe diverse teams build better solutions for the planet and its people. We’re committed to creating a workplace where everyone feels respected, supported, and able to do their best work, no matter their background, identity, or lived experience.
