Sr. Manager/Associate Director of Financial Planning and Analysis

Summary: The Sr. Manager/Associate Director of Financial Planning and Analysis will be a key member of the Akero Finance team, supporting the Director of FP&A and serving as a business partner to the Clinical Operations team. This role is hybrid, you must be able to work in our South San Francisco office twice per month on team meeting days.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the annual budgeting and forecasting processes for operating expenses and headcount planning
- Support quarter-end close/ reporting activities and variance analyses related to clinical trial expense/accrual
- Support the coordination and delivery of accurate and timely monthly/quarterly business reporting packages and present financial results to business partners
- Develop a good understanding of key performance drivers & issues relating to budget and actual results ensuring key issues, risks, and business drivers are understood and highlighted to management
- Drive continual improvements to processes, systems, financial tools and documentation
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting
- At least 7-10 years of experience in financial planning, analysis, or accounting
- Meaningful experience in the biotechnology industry and in Clinical trials accounting/accrual
- Prepare and review quarterly clinical trial accruals by validating assumptions and ensuring they align with clinical trial progress
- Manage and support SOX-compliant documentation for key Clinical Accounting financial processes
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced functions, pivot tables, financial modeling), and experience with financial systems (preferably NetSuite) and FP&A software (preferably Planful)
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and communicate actionable insights effectively
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present financial information to non-financial stakeholders
- A strong understanding of financial statements, business operations, and key financial drivers. Ability to think strategically and understand the broader business context

Compensation:

Below is the pay range for this position that we reasonably expect to pay. Individual compensation is based on a number of factors including, experience, education and skill set, and geographic location. This range is for the San Francisco Bay Area, California location and may be adjusted to the labor market in other geographic areas.
Pay range: $172,000 - $206,000 per annum
