The Role

We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer in Test who brings a builder's mindset to quality engineering. You'll be a hands-on senior engineer and mentor who helps shape our test automation strategy alongside our Principal Software Engineer in Test, raises the bar for engineering quality across the products you support, and partners closely with engineering and product to embed quality from the start.

You'll write code, build and extend test infrastructure, and influence how a team of 3–5 engineers thinks about reliability and correctness at scale. If you're energized by hard technical problems, care deeply about craft, and want to help shape how quality scales at a growing fintech, this is the role for you.

As a Senior Software Engineer in Test, you will:

  • Shift Left on Quality: Partner with engineers and product managers early in the development cycle to define testability requirements, acceptance criteria, and risk-based test strategies before a line of code is written.
  • Build and Maintain Test Automation: Build, extend, and help maintain the frameworks, tooling, and CI integration the team's testing runs on — taking ownership of key areas and evolving them within the technical direction set with our Principal SET.
  • Test Across the Spectrum: Design and execute functional, integration, regression, and load/performance test automation, using k6 or Gatling for performance and Cypress/Postman for functional and API coverage, so we catch issues at the right layer.
  • Innovate on Process: Identify and eliminate bottlenecks in the testing lifecycle. Champion adaptive QA practices that scale with rapid iteration without slowing down delivery.
  • Elevate the Team: Be a senior technical voice and mentor for QA engineers. Share your expertise generously, raise the quality of the work around you, and contribute to a culture of ownership and continuous improvement.
  • Drive Metrics That Matter: Partner with the engineering lead to define and track meaningful quality signals — automation coverage, test reliability, bug escape rates, and feedback loop speed — and use data to continuously improve.
  • Align with Business Goals: Build testing practices that support compliance, security, and reliability standards while staying tightly aligned with Akoya's product and engineering objectives.

Required Experience & Skills

  • 7+ years in software testing or quality engineering, with at least 2+ years in a technical lead or senior IC capacity
  • Deep proficiency with Cypress, Node.js, Docker, Bitbucket Pipelines, Postman, WireMock, K8s, and AWS
  • Experience with load/performance testing — k6, Gatling, or similar
  • Strong understanding of CI/CD, cloud environments, and shift-left testing principles
  • Experience designing and scaling test infrastructure in agile, high-growth SaaS environments
  • Ability to communicate clearly across engineering, product, and senior leadership — translating quality risk into business impact
  • Ownership-driven, collaborative, and biased toward action

How We'll Measure Your Impact

  • Automation reliability and coverage — high pass rates, meaningful coverage, less reliance on manual regression
  • Faster feedback loops — test results that unblock engineers, not delay them
  • Quality influence — bugs caught earlier, fewer escapes, and engineering teams that proactively think about testability
  • Team elevation — QA engineers who are more capable and confident because of your mentorship and example
