Civil Engineer-In-Training (EIT) - Data Centers
At AKS, we are growing and building for the future. We bring together multidisciplined experts across the land development, energy, and infrastructure markets to take on bigger challenges and deliver solutions that make a real difference. Our teams combine creativity, technical excellence, and a collaborative, hands-on approach to solve complex problems and deliver results our clients and communities can count on. We take pride in our work and our ability to provide opportunities for our teams, support each other’s growth, and look ahead to what’s next. When you join AKS, you will find opportunities to take ownership of meaningful projects, learn, lead, and make an impact from day one.
AKS is seeking a motivated Civil Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to join our team and support the planning, design, and delivery of high-tech manufacturing developments and mission-critical data center projects. Unlike traditional land development projects, high-tech and data center developments require careful integration of large-scale site grading, complex stormwater systems, extensive utility infrastructure, access and circulation, and coordination with specialized building, electrical, mechanical, and utility teams. You will contribute to multidisciplinary project teams to help transform project concepts into coordinated, constructible engineering solutions.
This role offers the opportunity to work on technically challenging projects that support the digital infrastructure powering today's economy. Working alongside experienced engineers and project managers, you will develop your technical skills, gain exposure to complex infrastructure challenges, and build a foundation for advancement toward professional engineering licensure.
What You’ll Do
- Assist with the design and development of data centers, semiconductors, and high-tech manufacturing campuses.
- Prepare and support site development plans, grading and earthwork designs, drainage systems, stormwater management plans, and utility layouts.
- Support utility coordination involving water, sanitary sewer, stormwater, power, telecommunications, and other infrastructure required for high-tech facilities.
- Work closely with both our in-house team and external subconsultants to keep projects running smoothly.
- Generate and compile submittal packages for land use applications, construction plans, survey records, and more.
- Engage directly with clients, agencies throughout multiple jurisdictions, and project stakeholders to develop your consulting presence and client management skills.
Who You Are
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or equivalent with EIT certification and actively working toward PE licensure.
- 1 to 5 years of civil design experience, ideally with growing project management responsibilities.
- You have a "Do what needs to be done" mindset, taking ownership beyond assigned tasks and stepping in wherever needed to keep projects, teams, and customers supported and running smoothly.
- Intermediate skills in Civil 3D and proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to coordinate across teams, clients, and agencies.
- Highly organized with the ability to juggle multiple deadlines and keep projects moving efficiently.
- Takes ownership of delivering high-quality work on time and within budget — a "do what needs to be done" mindset, stepping in wherever needed to keep projects and teams running smoothly.
- A strong team player who thrives in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
- Excited about growing into a well-rounded consultant — not just a technical specialist — and wants exposure to different project types, clients, and challenges.
Nice to Have
- Familiar with HydroCAD or other hydro-modelling software for stormwater modeling and analysis.
- Proficient with Bluebeam for reviewing and marking up plans and documents.
- Skilled at building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, agencies, and team members.
- Enjoys mentoring and supporting the growth of junior staff.
