Position Summary:

We are seeking a strategic Head of Marketing and Communications to spearhead the creation and execution of innovative marketing strategies that propel our business goals forward. The perfect candidate will have a stellar track record in elevating brand awareness, leading high-performing marketing teams, and delivering impactful campaigns across a variety of channels. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in  shaping and delivering our core messages, ensuring they resonate with the target audience. We need  a seasoned communications expert who excels at navigating the complex landscape of disinformation and misinformation, while effectively managing a fast-paced and highly visible public relations function.  Your ability to cultivate strong media relationships and adeptly manage multiple external communications will be critical to our success.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and Implement Marketing Strategies: Lead the development and execution of integrated marketing strategies to drive brand awareness, customer acquisition, and revenue growth.
  • Brand Management: Lead brand positioning, messaging, and identity to ensure a consistent and compelling presence across all marketing channels and touchpoints.
  • Campaign Management: Design and execute multi-channel marketing campaigns, including digital, social media, email, and traditional advertising, to effectively engage target audiences and achieve marketing objectives.
  • Demand Generation: Develop and manage demand generation strategy, allocating resources effectively to maximize revenue and achieve business goals.
  • Collaboration: Work cross-functionally with other departments, such as sales, product development, and finance, to align marketing strategies with overall business objectives and drive cohesive customer experiences.

Strategic Communication Planning:

    • Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies to enhance Alethea's reputation and effectively convey its mission and values.
    • Craft messaging that highlights Alethea’s pivotal role in combating misinformation, disinformation, and social media manipulation.

Media Relations:

    • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key media outlets, journalists, and other media participants, collaborating with external partners to amplify the company's message and initiatives.
    • Proactively seek opportunities for positive media coverage and respond promptly and effectively to media inquiries.

Content Creation:

    • Lead the creation of compelling and impactful content, including press releases, blog posts, reports, whitepapers, and social media content, in close collaboration with the CEO.
    • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product development legal, and finance, to align communication efforts with business objectives.

Crisis Management:

    • Develop and implement crisis communication plans to address potential challenges both internal and externally focused.
    • Serve as the primary spokesperson during critical events, ensuring consistent and transparent communication.

Measurement and Analysis:

    • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of communication and marketing initiatives.
    • Regularly analyze and report on the impact of PR and communications strategies, providing data-driven recommendations for improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in marketing roles, with 3+ years in a leadership position.
  • Proven track record of developing and executing successful communication and marketing strategies that drive business results.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate team members.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and levels of the organization.
  • Strategic thinker with analytical abilities and a data-driven approach to decision-making.
  • In-depth knowledge of digital marketing channels, tools, and best practices.
  • Creative mindset with a passion for innovation and staying ahead of industry trends.
  • Familiarity with the tech industry, particularly in early stage companies, is highly desirable.

Compensation and Benefits: 

  • Salary and stock options are negotiated based on experience. 
  • Healthcare at the gold-tier level, dental, and vision is fully funded by the employer. 50% of dependent coverage is provided by the employer.  Additional benefits include employer provided life and AD&D insurance and an Employee Assistance Program with a variety of services, including generous Mental Wellbeing support. 
  • Flexible vacation, sick leave, including office closure between Christmas and New Year’s, and extended holidays at Thanksgiving and the 4th of July.
  • Employees may also participate in an Employer sponsored 401k, after their 6-month anniversary, with a 3% match. Health Savings (HSAs) and flexible spending accounts (FSAs) are also offered.
  • Hybrid work environment, with 3 days per week required in office in Washington, D.C or New York.

The salary range for this position is $150,800 to $195,300 per year, depending on the candidate’s skills, experience, and qualifications.   In addition to cash compensation, this role is eligible for a stock option grant. Further, we offer comprehensive benefits, including flexible PTO, health, dental and vision plans, and generous company holidays.  From time to time, employees may also be provided with opportunities for professional growth, development, and advancement.
