About the Role:
We are seeking a Workplace Technology physical layer engineer with a strong background in structured cabling and security to design, manage, implement and support the physical layer requirements of a workplace technology project. The role requires a hands-on engineer with a strong understanding of office systems such as Audio Visual, Wi-Fi, Security & Access Control Systems, etc.

The ideal candidate will have experience in structured cabling design, implementation, and maintenance, as well as be hands-on with the physical deployment and integration of workplace technologies, planning, troubleshooting, and work with vendors, contractors, and internal teams to ensure seamless project delivery. You should be proactive, detail-oriented, and be willing to take certification courses to further develop your expertise in relevant infrastructure technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design & manage the physical requirements of the cable infrastructure on the projects
    • Design, manage and install structured cabling systems to support workplace technology infrastructure – Audio Visual, Physical Security, Wi-Fi, and cable needs
    • Write RFP for vendors to respond to, create the patching schedules and provide all necessary physical layer requirements – room schedules and plans, cabinet elevations, power requirements – all technology physical requirements
    • Select the IT vendors on the project and manage and critique their deliverables
  • Manage the Installation & the Deployment of the Technology with the Align PM Team
    • Physically install, configure, and integrate workplace technology solutions, including AV, physical access control, Wi-Fi, etc.
    • Work with teams to ensure the designed cable infrastructure is installed, tested and certified
  • Project & Change Management:
    • Support procurement processes, vendor management, and product selection
    • Identify potential risks and assist in risk mitigation strategies
    • Be on-site to ensure the designs and the vendors are implementing the project on time and according to the specifications
    • Execute change orders and document changes accurately
  • Documentation & Communication:
    • Strong professional presence with the ability to communicate effectively with clients, manage vendors and subcontractors, and oversee project delivery.
    • Maintain detailed documentation of structured cabling layouts, system configurations, installations, and troubleshooting guides
    • Effectively communicate project updates and risks to stakeholders
    • Provide training and knowledge sharing for end-users and support teams
  • Learning & Development:
    • Stay up to date with emerging workplace technologies and best practices
    • Complete relevant certifications and training courses as required

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Technical Expertise:
    • Strong knowledge of AV, Security & Access Control, Wi-Fi, etc.
    • Expertise in structured cabling design, fiber optics, and copper cabling standards
  • Hands-on Experience:
    • Previous experience in physical implementation of workplace technologies
    • Ability to install, configure, and troubleshoot hardware solutions
    • Strong background in the physical construction & look for issues that hinder the technology construction project & the cabling design and installations
    • Understand structured cabling, network fundamentals, and IT infrastructure
  • Project Execution & Risk Management:
    • Experience handling change orders, risk mitigation, and product procurement
    • Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external vendors
  • Education & Certifications:
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for meeting notes, managing patch schedules, generating proposals, and maintaining project documentation.
    • Willingness to pursue industry certifications - ie: PRINCE for Management, CTS for AV, CCNA for networking, BICSI for structured cabling, security certifications, etc.

Travel Requirements:

  • Ability to travel across EMEA and potentially APAC for on-site deployments. Anticipated travel up to 25%. Expected to be in person at the London office or at client sites managing projects minimally 4 days per week.
