Position Overview
If you are an analytical, strategically minded facility infrastructure and data center expert with an interest in helping to grow our assessment and modernization strategy team, this may be an ideal career opportunity for you. Align seeks an experienced data center facility infrastructure analyst with a background in electrical and mechanical systems. 5-7 years' experience working with data centers or facility infrastructure is desired with a comprehensive understanding of critical systems necessary to data center operations. This role will focus on Critical Infrastructure Analysis, Data Center Remediation, Capacity and Demand Analysis, Project Management and Consulting. This person will work with our Data Center Assessment and Modernization team focused on Data Center Strategy and Transformation to perform hands-on analysis of critical data center environments and the supporting mechanical and electrical infrastructure. You will work on "current state" to "future state" data center assessment projects and will be asked to utilize your knowledge of data center facility infrastructure to perform analysis on critical system vulnerabilities and provide guidance on possible remediation options. This person will work with senior consultants and other subject matter experts to help perform hands-on current state assessment projects, including data center remediation planning and consolidation strategies for data center portfolios. This person will be responsible for managing complex projects, working in a dynamic environment to plan, schedule and execute projects for various-sized enterprise clients (facility infrastructure, capacity planning, remediation analysis, IT infrastructure, etc.). This role is not a hands-on design role but does require a strong understanding of mechanical and electrical infrastructure in the context of a data center environment. The focus of the role will be in evaluating physical data center environments and facility infrastructure and determining strategies and plans to remediate, move or consolidate existing infrastructure to its ideal target state.
- This role is based out of our Iselin, NJ office, but will primarily be remote. The position requires regular travel, based on client project requirements.
- This is a full-time position offering full benefits, a base salary in the $140,000 to $160,000 range (commensurate with experience), paid training and performance-based bonuses.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct business analysis functions to understand facility infrastructure dependencies and help create data center transformation strategies and plans for relocating or consolidating workloads. Data center transformation strategies may be executed using a combination of approaches including migrating to a new physical location, consolidating across existing environments or exiting and moving to the cloud.
- Act as a subject matter expert the team working with Senior Project Managers and Technology Transformation consultants to drive technology infrastructure from “current state to future state” with a focus on data center transformation.
- Work with senior team members to be a hands-on resource for Data Center Facility Analysis, Capacity Planning and Remediation Strategy.
- Help to develop block diagrams and technical illustrations to support facility analysis and remediation recommendations.
- Be capable of leading manual processes such as workshops, facility manager meetings and engineering diagram analysis to gather required infrastructure specification and data center attributes.
- Lead and conduct workshops with Data Center Managers and work with Project Managers to formulate schedules and report on evaluation status.
- Create Statements of Work and support the sales process.
- Work with Project Mangers to help manage the project teams including; Align, the client and the vendors throughout the project.
- Gather documentation and build and develop a delivery plan for all the work streams
- Work as a hands-on resource to support and lead data center walkthroughs and on-site assessments.
- Advise clients on potential risk, and manage client expectations.
- Continually improve the process and framework and update our assessment process solution.
Qualifications
- MIS, IT or Engineering related bachelor’s degree
- 5-7 years of relevant work experience related to Data Center Mechanical and Electrical Infrastructure and IT Infrastructure is preferred.
- Qualified individuals will be able to work successfully in fast-paced enterprise-level environments requiring exceptional written, verbal and presentation skills.
- A comprehensive understanding of Data Center Facility Infrastructure (e.g., electrical systems, mechanical systems, structural systems, etc.).
- A general, holistic understanding of IT infrastructure (e.g., server, storage, network, etc.).
- A basic understanding of data center functions, technologies and interdependencies would be preferred.
- A foundational understanding of public cloud models (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) and providers (AWS, Azure, Google).
- Experience working with critical mechanical and electrical infrastructure projects, including facility assessment, migration and consolidation would be a plus.
- Excellent communication, organization and writing skills are required.
- Strong capabilities with PowerPoint, Excel, MS Project, Visio and Office tools to manage plans, charts, reports and documentation, etc.
- Must be able to travel as needed.
