Position Overview
As a Data Center Construction Project Manager, you will guide the build of electrical and mechanical distribution from upstream critical equipment through delivery to compute, storage, and network infrastructure. This role requires understanding design intent and customer expectations and being accountable for making it happen in the field.
You will be onsite daily, working directly with construction trades and subcontractors, and will be responsible for managing schedule, quality control, and day-to-day coordination in the field.
This is a full-time salaried position offering competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, paid time off, paid training, and performance-based bonuses.
This position is based in the South Dallas area (near Red Oak, TX) and requires daily onsite presence at the project site. Occasional regional visits to our Plano office may be required. After completion of the initial project phase, the role may transition to supporting additional projects with up to 50% travel, as needed.
Key Qualifications
The Data Center Construction Project Manager will be responsible for project management and oversight of construction-related activities for new builds or capital projects, including ownership of project scope, quality, schedule, and budget. Typical responsibilities include:
Responsibilities:
- Directly interface with construction general contractors during bidding, award, execution, and closeout/punch list phases
- Monitor project progress through updated schedules; communicate changes and manage client expectations
- Identify and negotiate time extensions where justified and allowed
- Manage construction initiatives focused on increasing data center resiliency
- Resolve scope issues with subcontractors
- Manage construction documentation including submittal reviews, RFIs, change orders, and invoicing
- Oversee construction project quality control
- Record and report key construction metrics to team members and management
- Drive troubleshooting and root-cause analysis related to equipment or installation issues
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline, or 5+ years of relevant construction management experience in lieu of a degree
- 5+ years of experience managing large, complex mission-critical construction projects involving large-scale mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems (data center experience preferred)
- Strong general contractor and vendor management experience, including RFPs, bidding, change orders, quality control, and RFI/submittal tracking
- Strong documentation, written, and verbal communication skills
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications across disciplines
- Working knowledge of building codes and regulations including Life Safety, BOCA, NFPA, NEC, and OSHA
- Ability to travel as required
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical systems in data centers
- Experience in the design or construction of data centers, critical infrastructure, or large-scale MEP plants
- Value engineering experience with demonstrated cost reduction without impacting quality or reliability
- Experience with power management and power monitoring systems
- Certifications such as Professional Engineer (PE), LEED, or Certified Construction Manager (CCM)
