Manager/Senior Manager, Accounting Operations
Alkeus Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is a clinical-stage biotech company focused on the development of innovative therapies to treat serious diseases of the eye with high unmet need. Based in Cambridge, Mass., Alkeus was founded in 2010, and since that time has been developing its lead compound, gildeuretinol acetate (ALK-001). Designated as a breakthrough therapy and granted orphan drug status by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, gildeuretinol is being evaluated in multiple clinical trials for the treatment of Stargardt disease and geographic atrophy (GA) secondary to age-related macular degeneration (AMD), a leading cause of blindness in the U.S.
Position Summary:
We are seeking a Manager/Senior Manager of Accounting Operations to join our team and manage daily accounting tasks. Working closely with the Controller, the Manager/Senior Manager of Accounting Operations manages accounts payable, manages and processes payroll and completes finance and accounting projects as assigned. They work closely with external partners/vendors to ensure accurate and complete records, maintaining positive and collaborative relationships. The Manager/Senior Manager of Accounting Operations assists in preparing financial statements and reporting matters. They also assist with implementing systems, processes and procedures as assigned.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Manage the procure-to-pay process including prepare and manage vendor Purchase Orders, reconciliation to invoices and process accounts payable invoices, applying robust knowledge of accounting principles, company policies and regulatory requirements to ensure compliant, accurate, and timely payments.
- Track and reconcile employee expense reports, monitoring and analyzing expense trends. Manage and reconcile company’s credit card transactions.
- Process payroll and its related processes including year-end 1099s and W-2 reconciliations (experience working with ADP preferred).
- With the Controller, manage the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, ensuring the integrity of financial data and timely reporting, including the preparation of timely and accurate journal entries/associated reconciliations.
- Support the Controller in working with external auditors and assist in the preparation for annual audits. Ensure all financial information is accurate and available for audit procedures.
- Establish and manage the revenue recognition process (if Company’s product candidate is approved by the FDA), ensuring compliance with US GAAP (including ASC 606). Oversee gross to net revenue calculations, including discounts, rebates, returns, and other adjustments. Ensure accurate reporting of revenue and related receivables.
- Establish and manage the accounting for the cost of goods sold (COGS) and inventory for commercial products, ensuring accurate tracking of inventory levels, valuation, and cost recognition in line with US GAAP. Collaborate with Supply Chain team to ensure accurate and timely recording of inventory transactions and related COGS calculations. Monitor and report on inventory obsolescence and provide analysis on inventory turnover and COGS trends.
- Continuously evaluate and improve accounting processes, systems, and workflows to increase efficiency and accuracy.
- Deliver on other related projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Education and Certification
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting
- Work Experience:
- Minimum of 5+ years hands on accounting experience
- Strong understanding of accounting and financial reporting principles and practices
- Strong levels of attention to details
- Excellent knowledge of MS Office, specifically Excel
- Familiarity with relevant accounting software (e.g. QuickBooks Online, Airbase).
- Biotech/Pharmaceutical experience preferred
- 3-4 years of Public Accounting preferred
