Materials Coordinator (Footwear)

Where we need help
Supply chain operations is a highly dynamic team supporting allbirds’ rapid expansion to 3 major continents. In the coordinator role, you will support the day to day materials management, focused on the hand off from the Materials Development Team through to Materials Planning for Bulk Production. You will work closely with internal teams as well as T1 and T2 suppliers to ensure Materials are in the right place, at the right time and production ready.
You will have the opportunity to develop key skills needed within a fast growing business. You will learn to create and prepare multiple reports and tracking tools to ensure the careful management and risk mitigation of Materials preparation.
What does the job entail?
- Act as the conduit between the Materials Development and Materials Planning Teams to seamlessly ensure materials are 100% Buy Ready on time and production ready
- Manage all pre production material management activities including sample management, T2/T3 relationships, PLM Data entry and management
- Manage the communication and execution of Material running change projects
- Plan and prioritise seasonal developments to ensure right material, right time, right place, tracking the material delivery schedule for sample making
- Own and manage vendor relationships with key materials / component suppliers
- Provide technical support on material application, through the product development process. Provide a perspective across multiple material types, with an understanding of colorfastness, bonding, abrasion and other performance related mechanical material issues.
- Identify any risks associated with material selection or application and provide recommendations / solutions to make commercial, durable and comfortable product of the highest quality
- Collaborate with cross functional teams to identify opportunities for cost reduction, innovation, process improvement, and efficiency
- In collaboration with USHQ, manage the Trims and Packaging process from design and development through to production sign off
- Gather packing information at model level for T1 Vendor and manage any seasonal updates
- Monitor T1 Sample Material stock holding and liabilities
- MOQ/MCQ/Cost data management & supplier onboarding
- Manage lab dip coordination and approval process
What kind of person are we looking for?
- Bachelor's degree in materials, textiles or a related field, or equivalent industry experience
- Minimum 1-3 years relevant work experience in footwear and/or materials
- Eagerness to learn and actively own your development within your role. You are interested in a career in Materials Management and are keen to work in a role that has a large scope and opportunity
- You have strong understanding of yarn, fiber, dying, printing and finishing
- You have a strong knowledge of knits, wovens and non wovens
- You understand the product creation process and GTM calendar
- You have an understanding of manufacturing, capacity constraints and T2/T3 supply chain complexities
- You have excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills that will allow for successful collaboration across our organisation.
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to think on your feet.
- You have an owner’s mindset that drives you to consistently deliver on assigned, verbal, and written commitments.
- You have the courage to challenge the status quo and the drive to take projects from start to finish.
More Practical Skills Required:
- BA/BS or equivalent
- 3-5 years experience
- Experience in Materials Development/Materials Planning/Footwear Industry
- Expert in Microsoft Office and Google Drive
- PLM experience
- Adobe Illustrator experience
- Very well organised and are a master of email communication. This includes both proper email etiquette as well as providing timely responses to all requests.
- Professional Phone Etiquette for internal and external communication
- Excellent spoken and written English
- Mandarin - nice to have / preferable
