Safety Associate

Your Purpose:

Alpha-9 Oncology is seeking a motivated Safety Associate to join our Safety and Compliance team in Vancouver. In this role, you will support safety programs and regulatory compliance, collaborating with cross-functional teams such as radiation users, regulatory officers, and facility operations.

Reporting to the EHS Manager, you will play a vital role in maintaining safety protocols and ensuring compliance while contributing to the success of our operations and working alongside a passionate team.

What You’ll Do:

  • Assist with all aspects of Alpha-9’s safety programs and ensure compliance.
  • Maintain and track documentation, including SOPs, radiation receipt, detector calibrations, radiation inventory, and disposal records.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with provincial and national standards for radiation, biological, environmental, and occupational safety across Alpha-9 facilities.
  • Coordinate with service vendors and suppliers of safety equipment.
  • Act as a liaison between radiation users, the RSO, EHS Manager, and BSO, facilitating communication and addressing needs.
  • Assist with the receipt and preparation of controlled radioactive, chemical, and biological substances.
  • Support programs such as the first aid program, WSBC requirements, and Joint Health and Safety Committee initiatives.
  • Manage confidential material with discretion and professionalism.

What You Bring:

  • B.S. or M.S. in physical or biological sciences, or a related discipline with 1+ years of experience handling unsealed radioactive sources.
  • Familiarity with Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) protocols.
  • Experience in preparing and receiving radioactive packages.
  • Proficiency in maintaining and updating standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Experience with RGS2 biological materials is preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Strong communication skills for effective collaboration across teams.
