Alpha FMC | Data, AI, & Digital Engineering Analyst Graduate 2027
Who We Are
Founded in London in 2003, Alpha FMC is the leading global consultancy to the asset management, wealth management and insurance industries, with over 1,000 consultants across 17 offices and 970+ clients worldwide. From strategy and operating model design to data, digital, and technology implementation, we partner with many of the world's largest asset managers, wealth managers and insurers.
At Alpha, you'll work directly with industry leaders, gain exposure to a wide variety of projects and clients, and develop skills that span consulting, technology, operations, strategy, and financial services. While many consultants build expertise within a particular practice area, our collaborative culture encourages learning across teams and disciplines. Most importantly, Alpha is built around its people. We pride ourselves on fostering a supportive, entrepreneurial, and close-knit environment where individuals are empowered to grow their careers, build meaningful relationships, and make an impact from day one. Through comprehensive training, mentorship, social events, and a strong commitment to diversity, inclusion, and community, we strive to create a place where talented people can do their best work and build long-term careers.
What You’ll do
This role covers two tracks: Data Engineering and Digital Engineering. When you apply, you'll be asked to select which track best matches your skills and interests. Both sit within the same graduate community and training programme.
DATA ENGINEERING:
Insurance & Asset Management
Alpha's Data & AI team works at the centre of our clients’ growth, enabling leading insurers and asset managers to build data platforms they can trust. We support clients across the public equities, private equity and real estate, secondaries, and London Market sectors, turning fragmented, hard-to-reach data into something usable for reporting, decision-making and AI. Our engineers work alongside client teams on live delivery, from pipeline builds through to agentic workflows, helping some of the biggest names in the industry modernise how they work with data.
Junior Data Engineer - A Day in the Life
You'll work alongside consultants, engineers, and client teams to solve technology and data challenges. Your day may include gathering business requirements, analysing data, supporting enterprise-level system implementations, building reports and dashboards, testing new functionality, and helping clients optimize their technology ecosystems. You'll gain exposure to cloud, data, and analytics platforms while developing the technical and consulting skills needed to drive transformation across insurance and private markets.
What You Will Learn
All new Analysts take part in our Alpha Analyst Training Programme, designed to give you a strong foundation in:
- How to build data pipelines that move and transform real company data, using industry-standard tools (Databricks, Snowflake)
- The fundamentals of data modelling — how raw data gets structured so it's trustworthy and easy to report on
- Practical SQL and Python skills, applied to real projects rather than exercises
- How financial services companies manage data safely and meet regulatory requirements
- How to turn a business problem into a technical solution, working with people who understand the client's needs
- Early exposure to how AI/LLMs are being used in data engineering
DIGITAL ENGINEERING:
Digital Engineering - A Day in the Life
As a Digital Engineering Analyst, you'll work alongside engineers, consultants, architects and client teams to design and deliver technology solutions.
Your day may include understanding business and user requirements, helping design technical solutions, developing and configuring applications, working with APIs and data, testing new functionality, investigating technical issues, and supporting the release of solutions into client environments.
You'll gain hands-on experience across the full software delivery lifecycle, from early design and prototyping through to development, testing and implementation. Depending on the project, you may work with modern programming languages, cloud platforms, databases, integration technologies, automation tools and AI-enabled engineering capabilities.
You'll also work directly with clients, contributing to workshops, demonstrating solutions and helping translate business problems into practical, scalable technology outcomes.
What You Will Learn
- Software engineering and development principles
- Application and solution design
- Cloud and modern technology platforms
- APIs, integration and data
- Testing, software quality and secure development practices
- Agile delivery and the software development lifecycle
- Automation and AI-enabled engineering
- Problem solving and technical analysis

- Translating business requirements into working technology solutions
Alongside formal training, you'll learn through hands-on project experience, working with experienced engineers, architects and consultants and receiving ongoing support and feedback.
