Accounting Manager
Reports to: Controller
Employment Type: Full-Time
Department: Accounting
Compensation: $120,000 - $140,000
The Opportunity
At Alpha Inc., numbers aren’t just numbers — they’re the story of how we build Hawai‘i. We’re looking for an Accounting Manager who loves clean close cycles, tight job costing, and bringing order to complexity. Someone who can own the month-end close, keep construction/project accounting running like a well-oiled machine, and level up our processes as we grow.
This role isn’t for a “keep-the-lights-on” accountant. It’s for a proactive leader who sees what’s coming, fixes what’s broken, and takes pride in delivering accurate, audit-ready financials every single month.
About Alpha Inc.
Founded and grown in Hawai‘i, Alpha Inc. is a locally owned leader in heavy civil construction, renewable energy, concrete services, and water well drilling. We’re committed to building Hawai‘i’s future through innovation, integrity, and purpose — one project, one partnership, and one person at a time.
We live by three core values that shape how we work and lead:
- Lead with Heart – Approaching every endeavor with humility, empathy, and respect.
- Strength in Unity – Fostering trust and collaboration to achieve collective success.
- Alpha Mentality – Demonstrating grit, accountability, and a relentless drive to excel.
Together, we’re not just building infrastructure — we’re building legacies that last for generations.
What You Will Do
As our Accounting Manager, you’ll run point on general accounting, job costing, and the full month-end close. Your work keeps leadership informed, projects profitable, and operations moving forward with confidence.
Your day-to-day will include:
- Owning the full month-end close cycle — running close tasks, keeping the checklist tight, and ensuring deadlines are met.
- Preparing, reviewing, and posting recurring, standard, and adjusting journal entries with strong support and approvals.
- Maintaining core accounting schedules/workpapers (prepaids, accruals, payroll allocations, debt/interest, WIP, etc.) and keeping them audit-ready every month.
- Completing monthly balance sheet reconciliations, clearing reconciling items, and escalating issues early.
- Leading job costing across projects: tracking contract costs, billing, customer activity, and resolving discrepancies.
- Monitoring daily cash activity and balances, investigating and flagging variances.
- Building and delivering monthly financial reporting packages that are accurate and decision-useful.
- Ensuring subledgers (AP/AR/Payroll/etc.) are closed on time and reconciled to the GL.
- Executing/documenting key internal controls aligned with policy and audit needs.
- Applying GAAP and technical accounting policies, and surfacing non-standard items for correct treatment.
- Driving process improvements — automation, template upgrades, and removing close bottlenecks.
- Supporting audits with PBC schedules and responses for your areas.
- Managing lien release accuracy/collection to reduce legal and financial risk.
- Jumping in on other accounting priorities as needed by the Controller.
What You Bring
You’re detail-obsessed, deadline-driven, and comfortable operating in the real-world complexity of construction and project accounting.
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Business.
- 4+ years of accounting and revenue cycle experience.
- Construction or project-based accounting experience (job costing, WIP, billing, etc.).
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP and month-end close best practices.
- Ability to partner effectively with employees, leaders, and external stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel heavy), on MacOS.
You’ll stand out if you’re:
- The kind of person who doesn’t just find problems — you fix them.
- Calm under pressure and proud of running a clean, consistent close.
- A systems thinker who loves building smarter, faster workflows.
