Civil Project Engineer

Location: Kaua'i, Hawaiʻi

The Opportunity

This is not a “push paper and wait for instructions” engineering role.

Alpha Inc. is looking for a Civil Project Engineer who wants to be in the work, on the jobsite, and at the center of execution — someone who thrives on turning plans into reality and problems into progress.

You’ll partner closely with Project Managers, field crews, and subcontractors to ensure projects move on time, on budget, and to Alpha standards. From interpreting drawings to solving real-world construction challenges, this role is for engineers who want ownership, growth, and impact — not just a title.

If you’re early-to-mid career and hungry to sharpen your skills on meaningful projects that shape Hawaiʻi’s communities, this is where you level up.

About Alpha Inc.

Founded and grown in Hawaiʻi, Alpha Inc. is a locally owned leader in heavy civil construction, drilling, concrete services, energy, and infrastructure solutions. Our work supports island communities and critical infrastructure that will last generations.

We don’t just build projects — we build people.

Everything we do is anchored in our core values:

  • Leading with Heart – We treat people with respect, humility, and care.

  • Strength in Unity – One team, one mission; collaboration wins every time.

  • Alpha Mentality – High standards, accountability, and relentless improvement.

As a Civil Project Engineer, you’ll live these values on every project and every interaction.

What You’ll Do

You’ll be a critical force behind project success — supporting planning, execution, and problem-solving from start to finish.

Project Execution & Technical Support

  • Support planning, organizing, and execution of civil construction projects alongside Project Managers.

  • Analyze drawings, blueprints, specifications, and geotechnical reports to ensure accurate planning and execution.

  • Use design software and drawing tools to clearly communicate and interpret technical information.

Cost, Schedule & Documentation

  • Assist with estimates, budgets, and project schedules to keep work aligned with financial and timeline goals.

  • Prepare and maintain project documentation including progress reports, material tracking, and budget updates.

  • Support drafting and review of contracts, purchase orders, and change orders in compliance with requirements.

Field Coordination & Problem Solving

  • Work closely with Project Managers, foremen, and subcontractors to resolve construction issues and workflow challenges.

  • Track project performance and ensure work meets specifications and Alpha quality standards.

  • Investigate issues quickly and help implement practical, timely solutions.

Safety, Clients & Communication

  • Help enforce Alpha’s safety standards and ensure compliance with all safety protocols.

  • Attend project meetings and communicate progress, risks, and updates clearly.

  • Support positive client relationships by assisting with communication and issue resolution.

What You Bring

You’re detail-driven, team-oriented, and serious about doing things the right way.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (required).

  • 2–3 years of experience in civil engineering, construction, or project management.

  • PE license preferred (or on the path).

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, Adobe Acrobat, and construction/project management software.

Skills & Mindset

  • Strong understanding of construction processes and field operations.

  • Excellent organization, communication, and follow-through.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities without losing accuracy.

  • Knowledge of safety standards and regulatory compliance.

  • OSHA or industry certifications are a plus.

Most importantly, you show up with:

  • Heart for your teammates,

  • Unity in how you collaborate, and

  • Alpha Mentality in how you execute.

Race & Ethnicity Definitions

If you believe you belong to any of the categories of protected veterans listed below, please indicate by making the appropriate selection. As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
