We were founded by families in East San José who wanted stronger academics and more support for their children. Alpha is a free, TK-12 public charter school system on a mission to prepare the next generation of leaders in East San José.

Who we are:

Alpha Public Schools is a public charter school network of four schools educating approximately 1,900 scholars in east San Jose. Guided by the belief that our students belong in college, we ensure safe, inclusive, and student-centered learning environments to help our students thrive. What sets us apart is the very thing that makes us who we are– our community. Alpha was founded by a group of mothers on the eastside of San Jose who sought better educational opportunities for their students. We maintain a strong connection to our community and engage families in a collaborative approach to offer a holistic education to our students. 

A Successful Community School Coordinator: 

A successful CSC collaborates closely with the principal and the broader school team to ensure initiatives are aligned and responsive to student and family needs. The Community School Coordinator (CSC) will be managed by the Associate Director of Community Schools and embedded full-time at a school site(s). They will report to the school principal for day-to-day coordination and integration into site-level work.

Key responsibilities include facilitating external partnerships, supporting implementation of findings from needs and assets mapping, and fostering collaboration around initiatives such as Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), Healthy and Thriving Environments, and Social Emotional Learning (SEL). All work must be data-driven, equity-centered, and informed by meaningful stakeholder engagement. The CSC also ensures alignment with the California Community Schools Partnership Program (CCSPP) framework.

The Community School Coordinator is Expected to:

Lead Site Based Needs and Assets Mapping and Implementation

  • In partnership with the Associate Director of Community Schools, conduct needs and assets assessments to identify priorities and gaps in services specific to the school site.
  • Use data analysis to provide actionable insights and support school teams in implementing strategies based on findings.
  • Regularly revisit and update mapping processes to reflect evolving school and community needs.
  • Leverage the CCSPP framework to guide and refine needs assessment and service alignment 

Coordinate Site-Level Services and Efforts

  • Coordinate multiple services and programs to address the needs of students and families, using a whole-child approach and ensuring integration across academic, behavioral, and social-emotional supports.
  • Collaborate with school leadership, including principals and assistant principals, to ensure smooth implementation of key initiatives such as MTSS, Healthy and Thriving Environments, and SEL.
  • Ensure there is a data-driven, assets-based and restorative justice approach to identifying and addressing gaps in services, programs, and strategies. 
  • Ensure all strategies and practices align with the California Community Schools Partnership Program framework.

Support Family and Community Engagement

  • Partner with the Parent Learning Center and other family engagement focused site-based roles to support family workshops, resource fairs, and other engagement activities based on site level needs.
  • Act as a liaison for families at the site, connecting them to available resources and services while ensuring culturally responsive communication.
  • Partner with principals to implement and facilitate stakeholder advisories to guide community school implementation efforts.

Coordinate Partnerships (Internal and External)

  • Build and maintain partnerships with community organizations to enhance services and opportunities for students and families based on site level needs.
  • Align after-school programs with the vision and goals of the school to evolve them into Expanded Learning Programs that support students throughout the entire day.

You Possess…

  • At least 4 years of experience in education, community engagement, or a related field
  • Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with multiple stakeholders, including families, organizational teams, and community partners
  • Familiarity with Multi-Tiered System of Supports, Social Emotional Learning, and Restorative Practices frameworks
  • Knowledge of the California Community Schools Partnership Program framework and its practical application
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred to support diverse family engagement

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience coordinating partnerships and managing agreements (e.g., MOUs)
  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • Expertise in data analysis, with the ability to synthesize findings to inform decisions and program strategies
