About the Team:
AlphaSense has a great opportunity for a Senior Counsel – Litigation and Commercial to join our growing legal team. Legal is a critical function in supporting the company’s fast-paced environment and acts as a true business partner to all of our leaders across the organization. We work hand-in-hand with cross functional teams to provide solutions to enable and empower the company to achieve substantial growth targets while managing risk and protecting our business.
About the Role:
This role can either be based in our New York, New York headquarters or remote in the USA. The Senior Counsel - Litigation and Commercial will have two primary responsibilities: (i) managing litigation and disputes affecting the company across a variety of subject areas, including intellectual property, complex business litigation, employment, contract disputes, corporate, and other matters; and (ii) reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements, including revenue-generating customer contracts and vendor agreements. With respect to litigation, this role will involve both managing external counsel in active matters and directly handling disputes, particularly in pre-litigation phases to resolve issues before they escalate. The commercial component will focus on reviewing, negotiating, and structuring agreements to support the company’s growth while ensuring compliance with legal requirements and risk management strategies. The role is the first of its kind at AlphaSense and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape this function from the ground up.

Who You Are:
- J.D. from a top law school and admitted to practice law in at least one jurisdiction.
- 5+ years’ experience litigating complex business disputes, contract disputes, intellectual property matters, and/or other matters with nationally recognized law firm, with some in-house experience preferred but not required.
- Experience handling pre-litigation disputes and settlement negotiations.
- Some commercial contracting experience preferred, including reviewing and negotiating agreements such as Master Services Agreements, Service Agreements, SOWs, Service Level Agreements, and NDAs.
- Superior business acumen with an unrivaled commitment to providing responsive, pragmatic client service and balancing legal risk with business needs.
- Energetic, authentic, and friendly with a great sense of humor; capable of displaying strong negotiation skills and the ability to support difficult positions in a firm and patient manner.
- Effective communicator and relationship builder with the ability to interact with both internal and external professionals of all types and backgrounds.
What You’ll Do:
- Manage litigation and dispute resolution matters, including selecting and overseeing external counsel.
- Directly handle pre-litigation disputes, working with internal teams and external parties to resolve issues efficiently.
- Provide strategic guidance to internal stakeholders on potential litigation risks and dispute resolution strategies.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to implement best practices that mitigate legal risks and strengthen the company’s overall risk profile.
- Provide general transactional support across the organization, ensuring agreements align with company policies and risk tolerance.
- Work with Sales, Finance, Procurement, and other internal teams to structure contracts that facilitate business growth while maintaining legal compliance.
- Remain informed of shifting legal landscapes in litigation, commercial law, and regulatory matters affecting the company.
- Help create and enhance legal playbooks and processes to improve efficiency as the company scales.
- Support the AlphaSense legal team on corporate and other general legal matters as needed.
For base compensation, we set standard ranges for all US-based roles based on function and level benchmarked against similar stage growth companies and internal comparables. In order to be compliant with local legislation, as well as to provide greater transparency to candidates, we share salary ranges on all job postings regardless of desired hiring location. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience/expertise and may vary from the amounts listed below.

Base Compensation Range
$165,000 - $200,000 USD
