Job Description
The Data Engineer II will play an important role in expanding our data engineering capabilities. Your primary responsibility will be to build and maintain the data pipelines and supporting infrastructure that power our business. As a Data Engineer II, you will be instrumental in developing and maintaining these systems, ensuring the seamless flow and integrity of critical data to support informed decision-making and transactions while collaborating with stakeholders across the business. We are looking for an engineer with a strong sense of ownership and a growth mindset.
Responsibilities
- Build out proprietary systems that are the backbone of our business in trading speculative wholesale power contracts
- Own and maintain data pipelines to ingest and deliver data from various sources into our databases using ELT/ETL patterns
- Define downstream business marts used as critical inputs into investment decisions
- Embed validation, lineage, and anomaly detection into data pipelines
- Implement data management policies across pipelines and datasets, including metadata management, retention policies, and access controls
- Partner closely with investment engineers and investment teams to understand data needs, identify gaps, and advise on performance of their processes
- Identify process inefficiencies and proactively create solutions to reduce manual work
- Collaborate with software engineers to design, build, and maintain reliable systems for our data infrastructure
- Leverage AI tools to accelerate development while maintaining full ownership of outcomes
Applicant Requirements
- 3+ years of experience as a Data Engineer or in the data engineering field
- Professional experience using Snowflake
- Professional experience with Dagster and dbt
- Strong coding skills in Python, SQL, and PHP
- Experience with complex data modeling
- An ability to grapple with quantitative concepts and systems, as this role interfaces with largely technical and quantitative peers
- Comfort working both individually as well as collaboratively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to collaborate with stakeholders across the business
- Strong ownership of work to proactively lead improvements for the Data Engineering team
- Comfort with occasional on-call rotation responsibilities
