The Lab IT Engineer plays a critical role in supporting scientists by ensuring the seamless operation of laboratory PCs, instruments, and devices. This position focuses on maintaining, securing, and troubleshooting computer systems while collaborating with scientists to meet their technical needs. The ideal candidate is a proactive, detail-oriented team player with strong technical skills and a passion for aligning technology with scientific processes.
As a Lab IT Engineer you will be responsible for -
- Assist in maintaining the global infrastructure of 5,000 laboratory PCs.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to devices, networks, and laboratory software.
- Secure and harden new and existing hardware.
- Image and onboard new computers onto the network and domain.
- Implement and maintain data backup solutions for laboratory equipment.
- Collaborate with scientists to troubleshoot and implement data flows for scientific instruments.
- Support digital transformation by upgrading laboratory hardware and processes.
- Explore and implement innovative, automated solutions for scientific challenges.
- Align technology with scientific workflows to create a digitalized ecosystem.
- Test and validate software across different environments.
- Create and maintain technical documentation related to configurations and procedures.
- Provide incident management, user support, coaching, and access management for scientists.
- Build partnerships with scientists to align technical solutions with scientific needs.
Qualifications -
- 3-5 years of relevant experience in a GxP lab environment.
- Bachelors of Science in Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a similar field.
- Ability to work fully onsite in King of Prussia, PA.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for obscure hardware and software issues.
- Proficiency in end-user computing or desktop support (Break/Fix workload: 80%).
- Knowledge of networking concepts, including VLANS, IP configurations, firewalls, and the OSI model.
- Familiarity with Active Directory and ticketing systems (e.g., ServiceNow).
- Experience with validated systems (GxP) and AGILE methodologies is preferred.
- Competence in Microsoft OS, with knowledge of iOS and Linux being a plus.
- Microsoft Excel skills are desirable.
- Exceptional communication and organizational abilities.
- Team player with a proactive attitude and attention to detail.
- Ability to follow processes, procedures, and guidance.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges.
- Leadership experience is a plus.
- Understanding of scientific equipment, controlling software, and data workflows.
- Project management and strong product ownership capabilities
