Job Description: 

The Interior Mirror Design and Release Engineer (DRE) is responsible for prism, electrochromic, and digital mirror component and system design, development, and engineering release for Client production vehicles.  The DRE will take part in development of vehicle level functional objectives and work to establish, and achieve, the corresponding component level functional objectives.  The DRE will be responsible for the components/system from initial concept, packaging, software/hardware development, kinematic/compliance modeling, virtual analysis, physical validation, through component and vehicle launch.  Responsibilities include overseeing component design, FMEA,  analysis (CAE), vehicle packaging (NX), model/drawing integrity (Teamcenter), development, component validation (DVP&R, change management (CCD/WebCN), engineering bill of material (EBOM), build support, issue management (GIMS), joint design, root cause analysis, solution development, and in-person support for associated testing, issue root cause, plant support, etc.  

The (DRE) job responsibilities include but not limited to: 

  • Directly involved with supplier design efforts and design reviews to ensure the supplier design meets Client expectation as listed in Client specifications. 
  • Ensure systems comply with quality, performance, timing, and cost objectives. 
  • Collaborate with advanced team to develop, define, and package system designs prior to sourcing. 
  • Serve as the regional on-site support for Interior Mirrors. 
  • Develop and maintain core boundary diagrams, interface matrices, parameter diagrams, Design for Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (DFMEA), and Design Validation Plan and Report (DVP&R). 
  • Support system integration and proper function with surrounding components, network communications, and Electronic Control Units (ECUs). 
  • Perform benchmarking, competitive analysis, and investigations on new technology. 
  • Support quality and warranty initiatives with technical specifications and evaluations. 
  • Ensure part variation and failure modes are addressed in an expedited way to improve customer satisfaction. 
  • Support business case studies and develop innovative ways of meeting required functional objectives and technical specifications with reduced investment. 
  • Perform technical evaluations during the Request for Quote (RFQ) process. 
  • Responsible for meeting all vehicle program milestones and conducting all releasing processes within Client related to the component and its interface within the vehicle. 
  • Apply design best practices and lessons learned from past product developments within Client. 
  • Responsible to interface with EE systems engineering in the development of vehicle functional (VF) specifications and work with our suppliers on Requirements Analysis (RAR). 
  • Review and approve software and hardware releases/changes including DVP&Rs and Software Component Verification/Validation Reports (CVVRs). 
  • Support efforts to meet warranty targets and relevant quality service field initiatives. 
  • Communicate component product development status on a weekly basis via DRE authored and maintained open issues list/project timelines and technical presentations. 
  • Ensure component level regulatory compliance requirements are met by coordinating with suppliers and internal Client regulatory compliance teams. 
  • Direct suppliers in developing, testing, and releasing hardware and software to meet Client vehicle level functional objectives and sub-system level behavior objectives.  

Position Requirements:  

  • Demonstrated leadership skills, ability to work autonomously, excellent communication skills, positive attitude, willingness to learn, flexibility, team-player, and attention to detail. 
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university. 
  • 7 years of engineering experience in the automotive industry. 
  • Mechatronic component design and release experience, interior mirror experience preferred. 
  • Understanding of components and physical integration in vehicle. 
  • Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) 
  • Experience with global project management and leading cross-functional teams. 
  • Proficiency in advanced CAD software such as TeamCenter Vis, NX, CATIA or SolidWorks. 
  • Experience designing and operating electrical test benches for software integration. 
  • Prefer candidate with demonstrated experience with LIN and CAN network communications. 
  • Prefer candidate with demonstrated experience with calibration and diagnostic tools such as CANalyzer, CANoe, INCA, Witech, or CDA. 
  • Demonstrated experience with Reactive Problem-Solving Tools. 
  • Possess working knowledge of Client systems.
