Location: Long Beach, CA
This Design Release Engineer, BSO Assembly and Roof Panel position is focused on the design and development of structural components to support future body in white (BIW) architectures. You will be responsible for developing design solutions for structures that include large castings and other advanced techniques to meet all system requirements. You will Conceptualize, Design, Engineer, Release, Develop and Launch Body Structure components.
Responsibilities
What you’ll be able to do:
- Develop BIW structures for future EV vehicle platforms using alternative designs, material systems and manufacturing processes to achieve best-in-class structural, NVH and crash performance from conceptualization to mass production.
- Develop 3D geometry and design concepts that solve challenging problems while balancing construction and material manufacturing methods for the entire system.
- Work with large assemblies to develop concepts for quick CAE analysis and further refine designs for prototyping and production.
- Optimize the concepts and designs with analytical and physical assessments.
- Develop package studies to ensure compatibility of designs to other vehicle systems.
- Create design solutions and aid in the development of the manufacturing process to ensure part quality and performance are meet.
- Develop casting solutions that are efficient to manufacture and incorporate the features and functions of multiple stamped parts leading to reduced complexity of our assembly operations.
- Communicate and coordinate with other team members to obtain relevant information to meet design/packaging requirements.
- Work in a cross-functional environment to identify and overcome technical challenges and meet requirements
- Work with software suppliers to improve/further develop key computing technologies
- Develop tools, methods, and techniques for development of the structures at a faster pace
- Support trouble shooting of prototype and production process with the supplier to address any part quality issues.
- Maintain record of all designs and documentation.
- Participate in design reviews and present design concepts. Make recommendations to improve and refine designs.
Qualifications
The minimum requirements we seek:
- BS/MS Mechanical Engr., with 5+ years of experience designing one or more of the following: Structures, Closures, and Joining parts including component manufacturing and assembly processes.
- 5+ years of experience using 3D CAD software collaboratively
- 3+ year of Experience in the production release process
- Good analytical skills with application of CAE tools.
- A system approach to design and development with the desire and curiosity to strive for exceptional delivery execution and continuous improvement
- Experience in assembly stack up using GD&T and knowledge of industry design rules.
- Expert knowledge using CATIA V6 part and assembly.
- Expert skills at developing CAD for sheet metal, castings, and moldings at part and assembly levels.
- Knowledge of body structures systems design, manufacturing, and assembly processes
- Knowledge of alloys used for structural castings.
- Knowledge of the secondary operations associated with castings, including, but not limited to trimming, straightening, and quality checks
- Good time management and organizational skills
- Strong analytical/problem-solving skills, detail-oriented and highly motivated
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a diverse global team with good communication and interpersonal skills
Salary:
- $115,000-135,000
- The actual salary offered is dependent on various factors including, but not limited to, location, the candidate’s combination of job-related knowledge, qualifications, skills, education, training, and experience
