Summary
Independently and collaboratively support mechanical engineering activities, contributing to design, review, testing, and documentation of mechanical hardware and assemblies across the full product lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop new mechanical designs and support revisions by reviewing change requests, creating redlines, and assisting with testing and documentation activities.
- Interpret engineering requirements and translate them into designs for moderately complex mechanical components.
- Support all phases of the product lifecycle, including proposal development, design, qualification, certification, and aftermarket support.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as systems, manufacturing, test, quality, logistics, and drafting to ensure designs meet performance, quality, and manufacturability requirements.
- Evaluate and recommend disposition for internal and supplier test results, deviations, and nonconformances.
- Participate in design reviews to ensure the accuracy and quality of drawings and engineering documentation.
- Apply established engineering processes, tools, and standards throughout hardware development.
- Contribute to the development of new fire extinguishing and suppression technologies.
- Support customer meetings and technical reviews as required.
Work Location & Travel
- Onsite role based in Wilson, North Carolina
- Occasional travel required (approximately 5–15%)
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field
- U.S. Citizenship required due to program and contract access restrictions
Technical Skills
- Experience with mechanical design documentation, including assemblies, fabrication drawings, bills of materials, GD&T, weldments, and installation drawings
- Knowledge of metal fabrication processes such as machining, welding, finishing, and pressure vessel manufacturing
- Ability to prepare and interpret engineering drawings and technical reports
Professional Skills
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Effective communication skills across in-person, virtual, and written formats
- Ability to transition between system-level concepts and detailed technical work
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of delivering high-quality work on schedule
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office / Office 365 tools
The actual salary offered is dependent on various factors including, but not limited to, location, the candidate’s combination of job-related knowledge, qualifications, skills, education, training, and experience.
