Network Engineer - Remote

Overview
Provides support, maintenance, and monitoring of the corporate network infrastructure including hardware and related protocols. Processes network infrastructure requests and serves as an initial point for networking issues and escalates complex and major incidents to senior engineers. Participates in network projects from concept to completion.
The position is mostly remote but the individual needs to be within an hour commute from the Raleigh/Durham metro area.
Responsibilities
- Responds to and works to resolve network incident/request tickets in a timely manner and in accordance with SLAs
- Configures, maintains, and operates routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points, load balancers, VOIP equipment, and monitoring tools
- Installs physical equipment, connects cabling, dresses communications racks, powers devices per provided documentation
- Utilizes the proactive monitoring of the network infrastructure via monitoring tools, addresses alerts in a timely manner
- Seeks mentoring, coaching, and knowledge shares with senior engineers and peers
- Will escalate and work with senior engineers to resolve difficult incidents/requests
- Will independently processes routine requests for network services, access, and documentation
- Troubleshoots to their ability to resolve major incidents, and seeks senior engineer assistance for complex network issues
- Participates on network infrastructure projects including requirements gathering, implementation, turn up, testing, and hand off of the technology solution to the business
- Works towards becoming a well versed in one or more network specialty domain such as datacenter, firewall, wireless, load balancing, cloud networking, or VOIP
- Contributes to the implementation of major network infrastructure projects in cooperation with senior engineers and peers
Qualifications
Academic and Professional Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent/years of experience desired.
- Desired certifications: Cisco Certified Technician (CCT), Cisco Certified Network Engineer (CCNA), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Security+
Experience:
- 2-4 years relevant work experience
- Ability to work collaboratively with a team and receive constructive feedback from senior engineers and leaders
- Ability to provide excellent customer service when working directly with users that may not be technical
- Ability to provide mentoring, coaching, and knowledge sharing in a constructive manner to peer associates
- Ability to work on a team for projects from concept to completion including requirements gathering, documentation, implementation, testing, turn up, and hand over
- Ability to become well versed in one or more network specialty domain: firewalls, VOIP, datacenter technologies, load balancers, cloud networking, wireless, packet analysis, networking tools (DNAC, PRTG, ISE, etc.), low voltage design, MPLS, or route/switch
- Understanding of TCP/IP Protocol Stack (This would cover IP Addressing)
- Understanding and past or present experience configuring and troubleshooting OSPF, EIGRP and BGP routing protocols.
- Deep understanding of Layer 2 switching
- Strong knowledge of vendor management, equipment (Cisco, Aruba, Arista), and working with ISPs
- Strong knowledge of hardware installation, low voltage cabling standards, power and data cable management
- Knowledge of wireless networking, firewalls, VOIP, datacenter technologies, load balancers, or cloud networking
Travel Requirements:
- On-site support for local office and/or local data center may be required
- Up to 10% travel may be required
- International travel may be required
Working Arrangements:
- Standard work week or as defined by assignment requirements
- Primarily works in a remote environment but is assigned to local office location
- May require after-hours, on-call support and/or holidays per on-call rotation or as defined by assignment requirements
- On-call and after hours work during peak times including end of month/quarter/year; during this time PTO may be limited to meet business needs

Salary Range
$74,598 - $88,026 USD
