Sr Technical Consultant

Adelaide, South Australia, Australia

Altera Digital Health

On-site Adelaide

Are you a seasoned Software Engineer or Technical Specialist passionate about improving patient care through seamless data exchange? Altera Digital Health is seeking an experienced Technical Consultant to be the technical authority for our mission-critical healthcare system interoperability projects across the APAC region.

About us: Altera Digital Health APAC

Altera Digital Health is a global leader in health information technology, empowering clinicians and administrators to deliver better care. In the APAC region, we are driving the digital transformation of hospitals and health systems. As part of our team, you won't just write code; you'll design the crucial integration backbone that allows healthcare systems (like Electronic Health Records, or EHRs) to communicate, ensuring patient data flows securely and accurately when it matters most.

Job Responsibilities

This role requires a blend of technical expertise, strategic problem-solving, client-facing communication, and mentoring ability. You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of complex healthcare integration projects:

  • Apply advanced computer science and engineering principles to design, develop, and test interoperability solutions using software or scripting languages. This includes developing new functionality and enhancing/maintaining existing systems.
  • Act as the liaison with Business Analysts and internal/external clients to ensure healthcare integration requirements—including HL7 standards—are clearly understood, documented, and met.
  • Act as the subject matter expert (SME) on HL7 V2, FHIR, and CDA standards, ensuring all developed interfaces are compliant, efficient, and meet rigorous data exchange requirements.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive unit test cases for integration components. Guide the team to improve integration quality and productivity, sharing knowledge of best practices.
  • Assist in accurately scoping and estimating complex integration work, evaluating technical feasibility and asking the right questions to derive accurate effort estimates.
  • Develop proofs of concept for new healthcare integration ideas and methodologies (e.g., HL7 FHIR). Produce and maintain supporting technical, integration, and installation documentation for both internal and external publication.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Proven expertise in healthcare integration and messaging standards, primarily HL7 (V2 and/or FHIR).
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, produce, and execute unit test cases for integration components.
  • Proficiency in at least one software or scripting language used in an integration context.
  • Strong ability to liaise with non-technical stakeholders (Business Analysts, Clients) to define and document technical requirements.

Highly Desirable:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional certification such as HL7 V2 Certification or completion of the HL7 Fundamentals Course.
  • Experience with other APIs and integration platforms in a healthcare environment.
