What You Will Contribute To Altos

The Science Integration, Innovation and Insights department is looking for a Research Associate, Histology to add to the team.  This hands-on role will provide technical histology support for multidisciplinary teams at the Altos Bay Area Institute.

Responsibilities

  • Be highly involved and responsible for the day-to-day histology operations, including set-up and breakdown of routine histology equipment.
  • Perform microtomy, cryotomy, embedding, manual routine and special histological stains.
  • Support research activities with the supervision of Scientist and Histology Hub Lead.
  • Keep accurate records in inventory and sample tracking software systems.
  • Operate laboratory equipment, prepare reagents, perform experimental procedures, record and consolidate research data, and execute planned research activities using observation, measurement, and analytical techniques.
  • Practice and follow safe laboratory procedures set by Altos.

Who You Are

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Masters in a related field such as Biology, Life Sciences.
  • The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of experience in industry or academia, with 2-3 years’ experience with standard histology techniques.
  • Extensive knowledge in the processing of human and laboratory animal tissues.
  • Expertise with a wide variety of histology staining procedures.
  • Flexible and able to adapt to changing priorities and problem solving to improve operational workflow
  • Ability to multitask and work across multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Highly organized and self-motivated.
  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • HT or HTL (ASCP) certified
  • Knowledge and experience of immunohistochemistry techniques and other methods of tissue-based expression analysis. e.g. in-situ hybridization.
  • Using automated slide scanning to capture digital brightfield and fluorescence slide images.
  • High level of computer literacy to maintain electronic records.
  • Strong communication skills, with proven ability to work with diverse and cross-functional teams.

Seeking location San Francisco Bay Area candidates only.

The salary range for Redwood City, CA:

  • Research Associate II: $102,000 - $138,000
  • Senior Research Associate: $115,600 - $156,400

Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.
