What You Will Contribute To Altos
Altos Labs is seeking a highly qualified Cheminformatics Scientist to join the Chemistry and DMPK Drug Discovery team. This individual contributor role will play a crucial role in advancing our drug discovery efforts by designing, implementing, and optimizing cheminformatics and machine learning tools for small molecules and antisense oligonucleotides. The successful candidate will collaborate extensively with Medicinal Chemists, DMPK scientists, Biologists and IT/informatics colleagues to support molecular design and data analysis.
Responsibilities
- Support project teams by providing cheminformatics expertise and contributing to data interpretation and decision-making.
- Develop and implement tools and workflows to enable data query, extraction, interpretation, and SAR.
- Collaborate with colleagues in computational chemistry to develop and support cutting-edge computational chemistry and ML tools for small molecule design by leveraging commercial and proprietary software..
- Build and maintain tools to support the design and analysis of oligonucleotides.
- Where appropriate, develop and maintain cheminformatics codebases, ensuring their reliability and performance
Who You Are
We are seeking highly motivated, creative, and collaborative individuals who are passionate and dedicated to employing their expertise to restore cell health and reverse disease. This position will be part of a multidisciplinary team within the IOM that will develop novel therapeutic projects and pipelines at Altos. The candidate will work in a highly dynamic and cross-functional environment that requires collaboration with the Institutes of Science and will span multiple therapeutic areas and therapeutic modalities. The successful candidate will have strong scientific training and experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Chemistry, Cheminformatics, or a related field with 0-3 years post-Ph.D. Non PhDs with at least 8 years of relevant experience will be considered.
- Demonstrated expertise in cheminformatics principles and techniques
- Experience in informatics and computational chemistry. Proficiency in data processing, analysis, and visualization software (e.g., KNIME, Spotfire)
- Strong programming skills in Python for data analysis, visualization, and tool development, including experience with relevant libraries such as Pandas, Matplotlib, and RDKit
- Excellent organization and communication with effective presentation skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in training and deploying ML models is preferred
- Experience working with cheminformatics databases is preferred
- Basic understanding of chemistry and medicinal chemistry concepts

We are open to considering candidates in either our Redwood City or our San Diego location. The full salary ranges by location and level are below.
The salary range for Redwood City, CA:
- Scientist I: $148,750 - $201,250
- Scientist II: $175,000 - $252,000
- Senior Scientist I: $210,000 - $280,800
- Senior Scientist II: $234,000 - $312,000
The salary range for San Diego, CA:
- Scientist I: $138,550 - $187,450
- Scientist II: $163,000 - $220,800
- Senior Scientist I: $184,000 - $255,600
- Senior Scientist II: $213,000 - $297,600
