ABOUT ALU

ALU provides higher education for a higher purpose. Our students declare missions, not majors.
They develop the real-world skills to take on the world’s most pressing challenges. And they take ownership of their learning from day one through our peer and student-led approach – because ALU believes in the power and agency of young people to start shaping the future right now.
Together with a world-class faculty and staff, our students are igniting a ripple of positive impact across Africa and the world.

HOW WE WORK

As a high-growth start-up, the ALU Team works in starkly different ways to traditional academic bureaucracies. We approach education from first principles, empower individuals to design, test, and implement creative new ideas, and work closely together to craft transformative learning experiences. We are deeply passionate about our students and excited by the challenge of building something entirely new.

The African Leadership University is committed to ensuring the safety and Well-being of all students under our care. As part of this commitment , we have a comprehensive safeguarding policy in place , which outlines our Zero-tolerance approach to any violation of safeguarding.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Visiting Faculty from other higher educational institutions and visiting experts from a wide variety of sectors enhance our student learning and networking opportunities, supplement our faculty capacity and perspectives, and generally contribute to the mission of African Leadership University (ALU)–to develop and launch a generation of ethical, entrepreneurial leaders from and for Africa.

Visiting Faculty and Experts engage with ALU in a variety of ways, including, but not limited to the following:

  • Giving a guest lecture in one or more classes in the existing curricula–on campus or online.
  • Conducting a co-curricular workshop, masterclass over a day or two on campus or during one of our off-campus intensives.
  • Serving as an Expert in Residence, in which you spend an extended period of time on campus (generally several weeks or more), providing direct instruction, research guidance, and structured and unstructured mentorship for students and other faculty.
  • Facilitating one of the modules in our curriculum, on campus and/or online. (Modules range in duration from 6 to 12 weeks.)
  • Developing–in collaboration with our Learning Experience Design team–and facilitating a new elective to correspond to our curriculum. On campus, online, or blended.

ALU Visiting Faculty and Experts are volunteers, although some assistance may be available to support in-country transportation, accommodation, and some meals.
