ABOUT THE ROLE
The Student Success Coordinator is a key member of the Student Success Team, responsible for coordinating English Proficiency Tests (EPTs), supporting the English Immersion Program, and contributing to other language support initiatives on the ALU campus. In collaboration with the Admissions and Registrar’s Offices, they will assist prospective students in meeting the B2 level requirement on ALU’s English Proficiency Test—a prerequisite for receiving an unconditional offer of admission. They will also facilitate sessions in the English Immersion Program, a 10-week experience designed to strengthen participants' language skills through a blend of live instruction, independent work, and guided feedback. Additionally, the Coordinator will contribute to broader academic support efforts focused on improving students’ English communication abilities, including reading, listening, speaking, and writing. This role is based in Kigali, Rwanda.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinate the scheduling and logistics of English Proficiency Tests (EPTs) on the ALU campus, ensuring clear communications and guidance for all candidates.
- Facilitate sessions within the English Immersion Program, including grading assignments and providing timely, constructive feedback on student submissions.
- Manage all communications and follow-ups with English Immersion participants to ensure consistent engagement, timely support, and successful program completion.
- Facilitate workshops and offer one-on-one support to help students improve their English proficiency, with a focus on reading, listening, speaking, and writing skills.
- Coordinate logistical arrangements for both the English Immersion Program and EPTs in collaboration with departments such as Finance and Admissions to ensure smooth execution.
- Prepare regular reports with insights on candidate performance in the EPTs and participant progress in the English Immersion Program.
- Gather feedback and insights from English Immersion participants and EPT candidates to inform continuous program improvement and updates.
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of English language support materials and resources used in the English Immersion Program and EPT preparation.
- Attend and actively contribute to key alignment meetings, providing leadership and insights to ensure coordination across teams and alignment with program goals.
- Perform any other duties reasonably assigned by the line manager in support of the company’s objectives.
Ensure the safety and well-being of all young persons and vulnerable adults with whom we deal, by adhering to ALU’s comprehensive safeguarding policy, maintaining a zero-tolerance approach to any violations of safeguarding standards.
REQUIREMENTS
The basics
- A Bachelor’s degree (minimum) preferably in fields related to education and learning support or English and communication.
- Experience administering standardized English proficiency tests.
- Experience in English language instruction.
- Experience working with students, preferably in an academic setting.
- Excellent written, verbal communication, and research skills.
- Strong organizational abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines effectively.
- Proficiency in using digital tools for communication and academic support (e.g., Google Workspace, LMS platforms).
- Ability to navigate uncertainty and ambiguity with confidence, adopting an experimental and iterative approach to address student support needs creatively.
- Strong commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- A student-centered, solution-oriented mindset with a passion for continuous improvement in educational support.
